    Government reshuffle in Oman
    Oman, Politics, 11/9/2001 Sultan Qabous Bin Saeed of Oman has issued a Sultanate decree providing for the division of the ministry of social affairs, labor and vocational training to two ministries. They are the ministry of social development which is in charge of social affairs and the Labor force ministry which is in charge of work specialization and vocational training.
    A second Sultanate decree stated to appoint Amer al-Housni as a minister for social development. He is the former minister for the divided ministry, besides appointing Juma'a Ali Jum'a as a labor force minister in the new Cabinet of the Omani government.
    Worthy mentioning that the new minister used to have the post of the deputy chairman of the higher council for " Bids." This is also the first time in which a special ministry is established for the labor force in Oman. This new ministry is founded after the increase in unemployment rate among the Omani youths. A matter which necessitated the personal interference of the Sultan to found financial backing funds for small projects established by youths as well as other forms of support. All these are also combined with the continued policy of replacing foreign labor force by national labor force in Oman. Previous Stories:

    Government reshuffle in Oman
    Oman, Politics, 11/5/2001 Sultan Qabous Bin saeed of Oman on Sunday made a ministerial reshuffle according to which he appointed Ali Bin hammad Bin Ali al-Bousaeedi as a minister for the Sultan's court in succession to Seif Bin Hamad Bin Saud al-Bousaeedi who died on Thursday following a heart attack.
    News reports also said that the ministerial reshuffle included appointing Saud Bin Ibrahim Bin saud al-Bousaeedi as a minister of the interior and Yahya Bin Saud Bin mansour al-Suleimi as a minister of education. Previous Stories:

    • March 29, 2003: Expatriates or visitors to the U.A.E intending to travel to Oman by land may have to wait at least a week for an entry visa, an Omani Embassy source said. U.A.E nationals and other GCC nationals can still travel to Oman by land.
      The developments in the region have prompted the authorities to close all land borders to expatriates and visitors until further notice. Airports are still open to travelers. It is believed that the action has been taken due to security reasons. Jan.20,2003: His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman on Saturday embarked on his annual meet-the-people tour from Seeb Palace as citizens lined the road to greet their leader.
      The royal tour is a unique tradition set by Sultan Qaboos during which the ministers of his cabinet accompany him. The leader interacts with citizens and also listens to their grievances.
      Oct.16,2002:Five people were awarded prison terms for violating the Expatriate Residency Law, according to an official of the Royal Oman Police's Public Relations Department.

    (b) Whether any prisoners have been let off by reducing the form of imprisonment as the part of amnesty or whether the Oman Government proposes for the remission of the sentence of any Indian prisoners;
    (c) whether any appeal or review or mercy petition preferred by any Indian prisoner is pending with Oman Government or appellate courts for final verdict; and
    (d) whether any prisoners have been kept under imprisonment even after the completion of their term of imprisonment ? ANSWER
    THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

    (a) According to information available with the Government, there are at present 40 (forty) Indians in Omani jails.
    (b) Only one Indian national was released before completion of his imprisonment term.
    (c) Petitions received from the relatives of prisoners are forwarded by our mission in Muscat to His Majesty the Sultan through the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from time to time for grant of pardon. Normally pardon is given only rarely and judicial verdicts are strictly implemented.
