Graduation is one of the busiest times of the year, especially for the graduate! Here are some tips to help you tie together all the loose ends!
Complete Your Graduation Application Early
All students need to file a graduation application online at DuckWeb in order to graduate from the University. You can find the deadline for the graduation application in the Academic Calendar of the Schedule of Classes. Applications received by the priority deadline are processed early and these students will be notified of degree progress before the next term's registration.
While applications are accepted through the end of the second week of classes in the term of anticipated graduation, it is a good idea for students to complete DuckWeb's online graduation application by the end of the second week of classes in the term preceding the term of anticipated graduation. By filling out this form a term early, you will receive priority processing; advance notice permits early review of degree requirements and notification of insufficiencies in general-education requirements. You will receive this notice prior to the following term's registration, allowing you to adjust your final term schedule to fill any needed gaps and ensure completion of all requirements.
Get Your Graduation Package at the Bookstore The University of Oregon Bookstore offers students a wide variety of Graduation Packages to help ease the graduation process. Packages range from the bare graduation necessities to complete packages including Grad announcements, thank-you notes and return address labels. Whatever your needs are for graduation, the Bookstore has an option for you!

The CTL program consists of five 1-credit seminars, 2 credits of practicum (1 credit each year), and one 2-credit seminar that includes the Portfolio Review - see "Program Courses" and "Schedule" for more information. One instructor leads, or in team teaching arrangements, two instructors lead a professional support circle through the entire 9-credit sequence. Commitment
Participants will be admitted into a professional support circle for the complete program of 9 credits. All members proceed with the program as a group. The courses will be offered in a one-time sequence. All admitted students need to make a commitment for the duration of the program and are to complete all certification requirements by the close of winter term 2005. Tuition and Fees
The courses in the Continuing Teacher License program are all 1- and 2-credit courses. In the academic year 2002-2003, tuition for a 1-credit course is $274 and a 2-credit course is $523. Based on this tuition rate, the cost for the Continuing Teacher Licensure program will be approximately $2,700. Tuition usually goes up by approximately 3-5 percent per year; exact rates will be available in August before the academic year begins in the fall. Master's Degree
To qualify for a Continuing Teacher License in Oregon all candidates are required to have a master's degree. The CTL program at PSU is a 9-credit program, and the credits may be applied toward a graduate degree program, pending program approval. The MA/MS in curriculum and instruction allows candidates to apply the 9 credits as elective credits toward the 45 credits necessary for the completed degree. Contact the Department of Curriculum and Instruction for more information.

What do Oregon's public schools, businesses, workforce, state parks and salmon all have in common? They all receive Lottery profits to help them prepare for the future! Prior to the current biennium (2001-03), all Lottery profits went to helping fund Oregon's K-12 schools, and to strengthening Oregon's economy. Constitutional amendments approved by Oregon voters in 1984 and 1995 earmarked Lottery profits for economic development and public education. In November 1998, 65% of Oregon voters approved another Constitutional amendment that added parks and salmon restoration to that list of allowable uses of Lottery proceeds. Since the Lottery began in 1985, over $3 billion in Lottery profits has gone to public education and economic development programs throughout Oregon. During that same time, players have won over $7.3 billion in prizes, and over $1.5 billion has been paid to Oregon businesses for services and supplies needed to operate the Lottery. The Oregon Constitution and legislative statutes govern how and where Oregon Lottery dollars are distributed, and defines what types of programs can receive Lottery funds. It also requires that the Lottery be funded entirely by its sales; no tax dollars or other public funds are used to operate the Oregon Lottery.

THOUGHT: Achieving Interdisciplinary General Education at the Research University Gregory D. Bothun, Department of Physics, University of Oregon General education requirements at the research university typically consist of 15-20 credits in each of the subject areas within the College of Arts and Sciences - e.g. Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities. Students generally satisfy these requirements by taking mass lecture classes, typically greater than 200 students, in X101: Physics 101, Sociology 101, History 101, etc. The underlying goal of this general education model is to provide students with an education that is broader than their own interests.

STANDARD TWO - Educational Program And Its Effectiveness
2.1 Policy on General Education/Related Instruction Requirements
The Commission endorses the concept of general education and, as described below, requires of all undergraduate programs a substantial and coherent program of general education or a program of related instruction. By design, the policy is intended to be qualitative rather than quantitative in nature. No formula for specific application or particular pattern of general education is endorsed. However, every institution is expected to publish in its general catalog a clear and complete statement of its requirements for general education and/or related instruction, as appropriate. General Education. General education introduces students to the content and methodology of the major areas of knowledge - the humanities and fine arts, the natural sciences, mathematics, and the social sciences - and helps them develop the mental skills that will make them more effective learners. General education may, of course, be taught in different ways, and an institution must judge whether its students are better served by curricula or requirements that approach the disciplines through content and methodology, or that approach the disciplines by concentrating on outcomes. The rationale and plan for the general education requirements should be cooperatively developed by the faculty, administrative staff, and trustees, and the expected outcomes should be stated in relation to the institution's mission and goals.
