DEGREES / CERTIFICATES by distance learning If you are seeking a two-year degree, time and location shouldn't hold you back. Some of Oregon's community colleges now offer two-year, associate's degrees through distance learning. That means you can get your degree with little or no time spent at a traditional campus location. We have the degrees to help you get ahead and that allow you to stay right where you are to do it.
Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer Degree
With an Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer (AAOT) degree you can complete your first two years of college and meet the lower-division general-education requirements for Oregon's public universities. Completing the AAOT degree simplifies the transfer process for community college students. The classes you take for the degree fulfill the general requirements, but not necessarily specific department or major requirements with regard to courses. You can get your AAOT degree entirely through distance learning at Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Lane Community College in Eugene, or Portland Community College. Find out more about each college's AAOT degree requirements.

High Performance Learning Communities
Project Overview: IPAR has formed a highly collaborative partnership with the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) to engage low performing schools in a research-based improvement process designed to lead to sustained growth in student performance. The Oregon High Performance Learning Community (HPLC) Project builds on the success of the national HPLC Project funded by the US Department of Education. As part of this unique collaboration, we provide technical assistance to specialists from the ODE as they learn how to become school coaches using the HPLC approach to school improvement. Eleven Oregon schools from across the state learn about and use the HPLC Cycle of School Improvement guided by the five HPLC Principles which include; Shared Vision, Learning Community, Challenging and Meaningful Curriculum, Supportive Organizational Structure, and Proactive Community Relations. Skills: School team members will be trained in the Six Essential Skills and Habits of Mind necessary to carry out whole-school change linked to student achievement and equity. These include: 1) Planning for whole-school change based on HPLC Principles, 2) Using data-based inquiry in a cycle of school improvement, 3) Working toward an equity goal that student achievement is not predictable based on a student's ethnicity, gender, or home language, 4) Learning to adopt and adapt strategies that work, 5) Building the know-how to implement change, and 6) Developing a collaborative infrastructure for continuously improving classroom practice.

Extension
The Forest Science Extension Program is a primary means of disseminating the information generated by Departmental and other research programs to woodland owners, practicing professional land managers, and the general public. Organizationally, Extension is linked to the USDA Extension Service through the College of Forestry Dean's Office. Extension specialist faculty, however, are directly supervised by the Department Head. Our broad, general goals are to:
  • Promote good land stewardship, Translate and disseminate research information, Create positive attitudes toward active forest management for attainment of owner objectives, and Facilitate the exchange of operational technology among forest land managers.
  • These goals support and are complementary to the long-term Departmental goals. The current Extension program includes the following resource specialists:
    • Greg Filip , Integrated Forest Protection (0.75 FTE) Doug Maguire , Hayes Professor of Silviculture (0.75 FTE)
These Specialists interact closely with the 15 county forestry Extension Agents, five of whom are faculty of the Department.
