Are you wondering how you will make it through to the time when you kids leave home? Do you wish you could just have more pleasant interactions with you children? Take a step toward a better, more fulfilling role as a parent by joining other parents who want to improve their parenting skills and enjoy the role of parenting by enrolling in one of the STEP classes. Grassophobia
We can learn a lot from our children, in this case about facing fears.
Each day my daughter, pushing one year old now, amazes me with the lessons she teaches me. Yes, here I go again learning lessons from someone too young to speak. (Hmm...maybe that's a lesson, too.) Quality Time After Daycare
One of the biggest problems working parents may very well face is the guilt of being away from their children for 8+ hours per day. At times, maybe even feeling as if they are not the ones raising their own child, but that that job is being done by a childcare provider.

American Psychological Association research summary of lesbian and gay parents and their children. Concludes that gay and lesbian parents are just as fit as their heterosexual counterparts.
    http://www.apa.org/pi/parent.html
    Lesbian and Gay Parenting
    PREFACE
    I. SUMMARY OF RESEARCH FINDINGS II. ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY I. SUMMARY OF RESEARCH FINDINGS Charlotte J. Patterson University of Virginia As this summary will show, the results of existing research comparing gay and lesbian parents to heterosexual parents and children of gay or lesbian parents to children of heterosexual parents are quite uniform: common sterotypes are not supported by the data. One criticism of this body of research (Belcastro et al., 1993) has been that the research lacks external validity because it may not be representative of the larger population of lesbian and gay parents. This criticism is not justified, because nobody knows the actual composition of the entire population of lesbian mothers, gay fathers, or their children (many of whom choose to remain hidden) and hence researchers cannot possible evaluate the degree to which particular samples do or do not represent the population. In the long run, it is not the results obtained from any one specific sample, but the accumulation of findings from many different samples that will be most meaningful. Research in this area has also been criticized for using poorly matched or no control groups in designs that call for such controls. Particularly notable in this category has been the tendency in some studies to compare development among children of a group of divorced lesbian mothers, many of whom are living with lesbian partners, to that among children of a group of divorced heterosexual mothers who are not currently living with heterosexual partners. It will be important for future research to disentangle maternal sexual orientation from maternal status as partnered or unpartnered.

I use sheet protectors — which keep pages safe from little fingers — and place the pages in a 3-prong portfolio cover. Kids in foster care need to feel connected to their past. This life-book will help a child maintain links with his/her past while in your home and help him/her carry memories from their time in your family to their new home when they leave. These pages can also help maintain the bond between the parents and your foster child if you send a few pages with the child to their family visits. These books are wonderful treasures, but they also serve an important purpose. When a child leaves your home — whether for the weekend or permanently — the book can help guide the child's new caregiver (whether it's their parents, another foster parent, or an adoptive parent) in understanding the child and easing the child's stress by playing a favorite game, reading a favorite story, or preparing a meal they know the child would enjoy based on the information you've shared here. If you're adopting an older child, these pages are especially suitable for a keepsake "baby book" type of book like you would surely have bought for a child born to you. If you look up "Book Binding" in your local Yellow Pages, you may find a book-binder or restorer who could take these pages and have them bound into a hard-back book for you (often for only $35-$50).

    Who we are
The Parenting Project is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to addressing our nation's crises of child abuse, neglect and abandonment, teen pregnancy and overall violence by working to bring parenting, empathy and nurturing skills education to all school age children and teens. Suzy Garfinkle Chevrier, The Parenting Project's Founder, is a parent advocate and the mother of three young daughters. She describes her motivation for the project, "When I had my first child, I was nearly thirty; I had read all the books and had taken parenting and child development classes in college; I had been around the world alone and had worked in many fields, including child care, journalism and education. But nothing ever awed me as much as being responsible for my own infant. I have always wondered how parents who have had fewer opportunities to prepare and fewer resources can possibly manage."
