Planting Herbs In A Container
Planting Into Landscape Fabric Planting Mint In The Garden Common Name Herbs A B C D ... Z MANY of the plants we grow such as annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees are herbs in the true sense of the word. With increased interest in recent years in continental or gourmet cooking the word "herb" is nearly always thought of by home gardeners to mean the "culinary" herb. The Herb Garden The herbs I have grown are listed below with instructions for growing them. Perhaps inexperienced gardeners as well as those who have not yet had the pleasure of growing these interesting plants will give some thought to starting a small herb garden. Even a small plot 4 by 6 feet will grow all a small family would need. If not grown for use in cooking, herbs are worth growing for pleasant aromatic foliage and some of them for the beauty of the flowers as well. Herbs can be used fresh for garnish in salads and to perk up the flavors of bland vegetables or to add flavor to meats and stews in which case one needs only to nip off a few leaves when wanted.

Our mandate is to be gardeners helping gardeners (and have fun doing it) To find information on St. Margaret's Bay and where it is in the world, click on the globe
We have very little soil to work with; but we do have great rocks and boulders to incorporate into our flower and vegetable beds. Our soil is very acidic, and some of us have wind (sometimes cold and dry, sometimes cold and wet) to deal with. Most of us garden in rural areas and also must co-exist with squirrels, rabbits, racoons and grazing white tail deer in addition to bugs and slugs. We meet on the fourth Tuesday of the fall, winter and spring months (September, October, November, January, February, March, April and May). We have a guest speaker at each meeting and the topics have ranged from landscape design, planting according to the phases of the moon, to attracting birds to your yard. We have a seed exchange in October and a perennial exchange in the spring.

Ambrose Bierce. The Devil's Dictionary. This database is intended to bring corporate imperialism to its knees. It will accomplish its goal by increasing your interest in self-sufficiency, thus promoting localized economies which serve the interests of their communities over global economies which serve the interests of transnational corporations. The rise of self-sufficiency will bring about the decline of consumerism, and with the decline of consumerism comes the fall of industry and excuse for imperialism as a US foreign policy tool. If this database were a plant, it would attract more birds and butterflies to your garden and improve the fragrance about your pathways. It would be an evergreen. More radical political philosophizing, please. This database lists every perennial plant that is worth growing for the sake of its produce, and that is hardy in at least 3 USDA hardiness zones; it also contains a selection of the most popular perennial herbs. Every plant listed here will survive temperatures down to at least 15 F without special care, and to at least 10 F with special care. Update.

Consider planting daylilies on a slope that is too difficult to mow, or to beautify the foundation of your house, or simply a roadside planting. The daylily will flourish almost anywhere you choose to plant them. Daylilies thrive almost anywhere and they multiply and spread. They can be used as erosion protection or ground cover. They require minimum care yet they bloom year after year. Because of their durability and low maintenance qualities, daylilies are very desirable in public and commercial landscaping. Within our website you will see more colors and varieties of daylilies than you would see if you visited every store and garden center in your area. Our daylilies are premium hybrids that have been carefully cultivated from parents with such desirable qualities as long blooming time and large colorful flowers.

Information on 100+ Perennials::
Where to use Perennials in the Perennial border
By V. Ries The term perennial border has become a by-word wherever gardening is done. Perennial borders around the edges of the home plot or old-style back yard have done much to get people away from the old type of gardening that consisted of a lawn cluttered up with small flower beds. It is generally realized that today the better effect is obtained by giving the flowers the necessary setting by placing them in a border around the edges of the yard or garden. The lawn then serves as a foreground for the picture. It may have a background hedge or a planting of shrubs; or, if space is lacking, a vine-covered fence may serve and at the same time give the ever essential privacy and seclusion that good taste desires in the modern garden. The perennial border may be fitted to any property, however small, however large. It may be only a foot wide and a few feet long, or ten feet or more wide and several hundred feet long. It may represent the initial expenditure of twenty-five cents for seed or hundreds of dollars for plants.
