Absolutely! We like to arrive about 1 hour before you have to leave for the ceremony, spending some time with the bride and shooting unobtrusively while she gets ready with her maids, before we do the formal shots of the bride and her maids. How much of a retainer do you need to hold the date? We require 25% of the package you choose to retain to the date. Please note we can not hold any date without a retainer and a signed contract. Also note that retainers are non-refundable under any circumstances. How long before we get our proofs back? Usually within 6-8 weeks, depending on our shooting schedule. Do we get to keep the proofs? Yes! We put the proofs in an Art Leather Prelude album for easier viewing. This is also for the pictures' protection. The proofs are unmarked, meaning they don't have anything written on the photo side of the proof. Do we get to keep the negatives?

Conferences NANPA Press Releases NANPA Joins Coalition to Prevent Oil Drilling in Alaska Apr 15, 2002 The North American Nature Photography Association Board of Directors has confirmed an Executive Committee decision to sign a petition and join a coalition of over 500 local, regional, and national organizations working to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil drilling and support efforts to add its 1.5 million acre Coastal Plain to the U.S. wilderness preservation system. Arrangements were completed April 15 for NANPA to join the coalition. Coalition membership does not place any financial burden on NANPA, or require the association to participate in any other activities. It means that NANPA will be listed as a member of the Alaska Coalition on publications and other materials related to the protection of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The petition also supports the Coalition's efforts to protect the Tongass and Chugach National Forests. As a follow-up, NANPA sent a letter giving the reasons for its support of the petition to Mr. Dan Ritzman, National Outreach Director for the Alaska Coalition in Washington, D.C., which was distributed to the U.S. Senate as they debated the issue.

Membership Info President's Message January/February 2002 NANPA Recollections and the Future by Jim Clark, President I can remember the day like it was yesterday: January 12, 1995the day before the opening of the first NANPA summit. I had arrived early, eager with anticipation. I would not be disappointed; in fact, it would change my life forever. From January 13-15, more than 500 nature photographers-amateurs and professionals-convened in Fort Myers, Fla. to celebrate the craft and profession of nature photography. I had often dreamed about such an organization and now the dream was becoming a reality. Down the hotel hallways and in the many meeting rooms I caught my first glimpse of folks I used to only read about-Art Wolfe, Frans Lanting, George Lepp, and Dewitt Jones. Wow, they actually do exist and they said "Hi!" And who would be the first person I would meet at the opening reception that night? None other than Joe MacDonald. Now Joe did not know me from Adam. But here he invited me to sit down and have a beer with him. He talked to me as if we had been friends for a long time. Having read all his books and admired his photography, here I was talking with the guy. How was I ever going to get to sleep that night? I was in hog heaven as we say in my neck of the woods. The excitement of the Summit kept building to the point that no one wanted it to end. We talked about the craft of photography. We listened to the professionals discuss issues of concern to them. We developed new contacts and made new friends. We spoke with the many sponsors and exhibitors about their products. We learned from editors and publishers. We celebrated the success of others, both professional and amateur. We left inspired, motivated, and hopeful. Hog heaven, indeed.

Pete Turner Biography Detailed Biography Pete Turner was born in Albany, New York. An early interest in chemistry led him to a lifelong fascination for photography and to a great affinity for color. He graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology. A seven month expedition to Africa for the National Geographic magazine, from the Cape to Cairo in a caravan, was a turning point in his career. Africa has been a constant place of inspiration and renewal for him. At the same time, his editorial photo essays began to be published regularly in Esquire, Look, Holiday, Sports Illustrated among others, and photo portfolios appeared in Camera (Switzerland), Twen (Germany) and Photo (France). His work has been used on numerous jazz album covers including and CTI labels. Maintaining a studio at Carnegie Hall in New York City, Turner gradually shifted his main emphasis from editorial to advertising photography while pursuing his personal work and becoming more involved in conceptual photography. About Eleakis Photography The Owners Joan bought her first camera from Roger (it was his first camera sale), eventually she took a couple of his photography classes. Yes, one thing did lead to another and they were married in 1980. Joan worked for the State of California as an accountant - but her's is a creative spirit that needs an outlet, always doing crafts and art she loves to help with weddings and creative projects at the studio. Joan retired from the state in 2000, loves it, and still assists at the studio on a part time basis - Hey! She is retired! In 1981 Roger and Joan started photographing all of the live performances for the Sacramento Ballet (Joan's daughter was in the Ballet), that lasted for about 10 years. In 1983 they photographed their first weddings for customers of The Camera Center who had gotten to know Roger, and also started to do all of the photography for the Sacramento Opera. Roger is also active in the local and state Professional Photography Associations, where he has served on the board of directors and as as President. Chantel Elder Chantel works full time at the studio as Roger's assistant. Chantel is going to Sacramento City College with a focus on photography. She is in charge of production and customer service. She is an excellent retouching artist in both hand and digital art work. Chantel has a relaxed attitude and a wonderful eye for light and composition that make her perfect for candid wedding photography. She catches the special candid moments using available light.
