April Message March was a full month with the children involved in our St. Patrick's Day fun, field trip to Dr. Bonk's dentist office, and our Spaghetti Dinner. For St. Patrick's Day we wore green and ate a green snack. At the dentist we learned the importance of clean teeth and the proper way to brush along with what foods were healthy for our teeth. We also got new toothbrushes and a surprise from the Treasure Box! With April comes preregistration for children already enrolled in the preschool and their siblings. On Monday, April 28th we will open registration to everyone. Anyone with children 2 1/2 (potty-trained) through 5 years please come by to visit or call the Preschool at 723-8455.

TIP:
One of my friends printed off worksheets from here with letters, numbers, etc. Instead of making numerous copies, she put each worksheet inside one of those plastic page protectors.
Using washable or dry-erase markers, her child can trace the worksheets. Afterwards, each page can be cleaned off with some mild detergent and water.

What is a request for an item/activity? Requesting an item/activity indicates the desire to gain or maintain access to a preferred object or activity. Who would benefit from being taught to request items/activities? A variety of children who engage in challenging behaviors would benefit from being taught to request items/activities. 1. Gain Preferred Items Children who engage in challenging behaviors in order to obtain items or activities would benefit from being taught a communicative request. Larry bangs his head on the floor when he wants a preferred toy. When he engages in this behavior, caregivers offer him an array of preferred items. Maintain Interaction/Contact-Motivated (Attention-Motivated) Some children engage in challenging behaviors to continue an activity.

Window Painting: On the next rainy day, have your students paint the window using fingerpaint or tempera paint. Have them paint a sun, rainbow, and handprint butterflies. This will brighten up the room on a dreary day!
Thanks to Deborah Wade
Powdered Tempera on Glue: Children squeeze glue onto heavy paper, making a design. Then sprinkle powdered tempera on top and let dry. Shake off loose tempera when dry.
Styrofoam Tray Printmaking: Styrofoam tray
Tempera paint
Speedball ink,or if printing on fabric, ink that will set and be colorfast
Rollers
Paper or fabric
pen or pencil The idea is for students to create a design on the tray with pen or pencil by indenting somewhat into the tray. Letters will print reversed so if you/they want letters they need to be drawn in backwards. After the design is complete, students evenly roll ink onto the tray. Then place a piece of paper on the ink, use a rolling pin to help transfer the design onto the paper or fabric. Carefully, evenly lift paper and you have a print! Repeat with other colors or using different kinds of papers. If using fabric, let dry and sew together as a quilt! Thanks to Kimberly Shields-Tapper Glue Drop: Mix glue with tempera paint or food coloring. Drip on waxed paper with tongue depressors. Let dry; then peel glue drops off of waxed paper. Glue drops on paper and color and paint around them.

There is no doubt that it is very important that we acquaint our children with this very important community helper because our children will learn about safety, and who to call or ask for help in an emergency. The ability of our children to know how to communicate with and trust a police officer is critical and can save their lives and those of others.

Parents are the first, and most important teachers of their children, not only directly teaching, but choosing products for their children. For preschoolers, the distinction between education and entertainment is subtle. Children of this age group are learning constantly, and the more enjoyment they get from what they watch, read, listen to, or interact with, the more they will take in, and learn. This site looks at a range of resources and media aimed at that critical age before school is started, and assesses the educational and entertainment value of these products. There are also profiles of the artists, writers, and performers involved, interviews, and lots of links to help parents become more informed consumers, choosing the most appropriate products to help give their preschooler a terrific learning head-start.

These workers play an important role in a child’s development by caring for the child when parents are at work or away for other reasons. Some parents enroll their children in nursery schools or child-care centers primarily to provide them with the opportunity to interact with other children. In addition to attending to children’s basic needs, these workers organize activities that stimulate the children’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth. They help children explore their interests, develop their talents and independence, build self-esteem, and learn how to behave with others.

    Child Development
    Sue:
Many parents want their preschoolers to learn but may feel a little skeptical about having their youngsters leave the house at such an early age. Jill Dunford, the author of Teach me Mommy, felt this way 25 years ago. She and her husband were concerned that her children wouldn't have the time or space to really develop into the people they ere meant to be- in a nutshell they wouldn't have the opportunities to foster a good self image and to learn the way that was best for THEM. Jill developed a home nursery school which met her children's' needs and interests. Now, with her book Teach Me Mommy, all parents can easily tailor a preschool program right at home!
Teach Me Mommy is a step by step themed book that gives parents lessons that will teach their preschoolers in a fun and relaxed way. The book is simple to use and includes crafts , book recommends and topics to cover that are perfect for the preschooler . Each day's plan offers specific ideas for:
    • what to talk about books to read to kids songs and fingerplays to act out crafts and activities to do together treats you and the kids can make
Jill includes a listing called "standard equipment" to have on hand, ideas of teaching aids you can buy or make, a listing with outlines for holidays like Mother's and Father's Day, all the recipes in the book, and a weekly outline chart to make schedules and plan ahead.
