61. Beyond Racism And Misogyny: Black Feminism And 2 Live Crew
Examines the debate over 2 Live Crew's arrest on obscenity charges in 1990, and they ways in which the case illustrates how race and gender politics continue to marginalize Black women.

Beyond Racism and Misogyny: Black Feminism and 2 Live Crew
Kimberle Crenshaw

In June 1990, the members of the rap group 2 Live Crew were arrested and charged under a Florida obscenity statute for their performance in an adults-only club in Hollywood, Florida. The arrests came just two days after a federal court judge had ruled that the sexually explicit lyrics in 2 Live Crew's album, As Nasty As They Wanna Be , were obscene. Although the members of 2 Live Crew were eventually acquitted of charges stemming from the live performance, the Federal court determination that As Nasty As They Wanna Be is obscene still stands. This obscenity judgment, along with the arrests and the subsequent trial, prompted an intense public controversy about rap music, a controversy that merged with a broader debate about the representation of sex and violence in popular music, about cultural diversity, and about the meaning of freedom of expression. I
Two positions dominated the debate about 2 Live Crew. Writing in Newsweek , political columnist George Will staked out a case against the Crew, arguing that Nasty was misogynistic filth and characterizing their lyrics as a profoundly repugnant "combination of extreme infantilism and menace" that objectified Black women and represented them as legitimate targets for sexual violence.

Dispensationalism and Racism
by Thomas Williamson What would you think of a religious sect that taught that there is one race that is by nature superior, and another race that is by nature inferior? And suppose that this sect taught that the superior race has a divine right to dispossess members of the inferior race and take their properties without compensation, and to ethnically cleanse those who resist this expropriation, using violence if necessary? And suppose that this sect believed so strongly in this system of racism and ethnic cleansing that it was willing to plunge the world into war in order to fulfill its objectives. And suppose that this sect claimed 70,000,000 adherents in the world's most powerful nation, and had a stranglehold on the foreign policy of that nation, so that the military and financial might of that nation was directed toward the goal of helping the superior race and suppressing the inferior race? Welcome to the wonderful world of American dispensationalism. Dispensationalists, who are found in many fundamentalist and evangelical denominations, follow the theological beliefs of John Nelson Darby, C. I. Scofield and Hal Lindsey, who taught that ethnic Jews constitute a superior race who are destined to take over Palestine, then the entire Middle East and finally the world. This naturally leads to a resentment of Palestinian Arabs, and all other Middle Eastern nations that sympathize with the Palestinians in their resistance to the program of pushing them out of their historic homelands. Dispensationalism, taken to its logical conclusion, leads to racism.

EKTA Kettering: Young People Against Racism
Welcome to the EKTA website.
We are a group of young people from secondary schools in Kettering Borough, between the ages of 12 and 18. We formed as a group in January 2001, so that we could educate other young people about the effects of racism and provide help, advice and support for victims of racial abuse, racist assault, racial harassment and bullying in schools and the wider community in the Kettering Borough. We want people to know that RACISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Our organisation is sponsored by Kettering Borough Council who identified racism as a subject of community concern within the local area, especially amongst young people. We support young people across the borough including Kettering, Wellingborough, Rothwell and Desborough.

70. Zionism = Racism.
Gives four grounds to categorise Zionism as racist. A brief study in comparative nationalism.
http://web.inter.nl.net/users/Paul.Treanor/zionism.html
Zionism = Racism
Zionism is a racist ideology, like all nationalisms. The specific racist characteristics are summarised here: labelling them racist should be uncontroversial in itself. However Israel and its supporters are allergic for the label, and that hinders rational assessment of nationalist ideology.
Nationalism and racism
Nation states are components of a nationalist world order, and nationalism is the ideology or movement that promotes that world order. The specific characteristics of that world order are listed in the introduction to Nation Planet . The present world order is composed of permanent states. With one exception, the Vatican, they are formed by trans-generational communities - nations. Together these states hold all inhabitable territory, as contiguous national territories: a planet of nations. All nationalists hold certain core beliefs about this world order, about the nation itself and about the nation state. Some of these core beliefs are clearly racist. Others - such as the belief that nation states should be transgenerational - are not racist in themselves, but lead almost inevitably to racist policies by the states. All modern nation states are founded on certain racist principles

Anti Racism Campaign (ARC)
Who we are and what we stand for The Anti Racism Campaign (ARC) is an open and democratic alliance of people who came together to combat the anti-refugee and anti-immigrant hysteria initiated and encouraged by many politicians and sections of the media. We are non party political. We support equal rights for refugees and immigrants: work, welfare, housing and entry into Ireland. We welcome the advent of greater ethnic diversity as a positive development for Irish society. We also oppose the racist treatment that has been experienced by Travelers (an Irish ethnic minority). We oppose sexism, sectarianism and homophobia. We are against immigration controls and refuse to separate people into "deserving" (refugees) and "non-deserving" (immigrants). Millions of Irish people have emigrated in search of a better life. 150 years ago there were 8 million people living in Ireland, today the number has only climbed back to 5 million. For the Irish government to deny people entry is particularly hypocritical and discriminatory. Racism does not offer any solution to poverty here. It is an attempt to hold foreign born people responsible for the government's neglect of working class communities and their underfunding of welfare services. Racism divides ordinary tax paying workers and unemployed people on the grounds of colour, and deflects us into fighting among ourselves. Meanwhile the government gives away our tax money in grants to big business and tax amnesties for the rich.

    Racism
by Anup Shah - Select a page to view Racism is a very touchy subject for some, as issues concerning free speech and Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights come into play. Some people argue that it is just words. Others point out that these words can lead to some very dire and serious consequences (World War II being an example.)
    Racism in Europe
Europe is often one of the first places people think of when racism is discussed. From the institutionalized racism, especially in colonial times, when racial beliefs even eugenics were not considered something wrong, to recent times where the effects of neo-Nazism is still felt. Europe is a complex area with many cultures in a relatively small area of land that has seen many conflicts throughout history. (Note that most of these conflicts have had trade and resource access at their core, but national identities have often added fuel to some of these conflicts.) In "

DARKNESS OF THE HEART
When you look at me what do you see?
When you listen to me speak, what do you hear?
When you look in my eyes, what do they show?
Do you see me the way I see you,
Or am I different because I'm not like you?
Do find me strange because I don't match your color?
Or find me scary because I'm not like your fellow brother?
I may be different on the outside and I may seem quite strange,
When you look deep down inside, we are all really the same.

ABOUT Racism -prejudice or discrimination against a person or group because of a difference of cultural or ethnice background. I shouldn't have to tell you what racism is because it exists all around us. It's gotten alot better but it's still there. I hate the judgement, bullying, making fun of etc of people who are different. This is a clique for people who are against racism. here's a quote: "Racism is based in ignorance and insecurity and limits all humanity. It is not something we are born with, but is learned,"-Karen Kain

http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/race/fish.htm
November 1993
Reverse Racism,
or How the Pot Got to Call the Kettle Black
In America "whites once set themselves apart from blacks and claimed privileges for themselves while denying them to others," the author writes. "Now, on the basis of race, blacks are claiming special status and reserving for themselves privileges they deny to others. Isn't one as bad as the other? The answer is no"
by Stanley Fish

I Only if racism is thought of as something that occurs principally in the mind, a falling-away from proper notions of universal equality, can the desire of a victimized and terrorized people to band together be declared morally identical to the actions of their would-be executioners. Only when the actions of the two groups are detached from the historical conditions of their emergence and given a purely abstract description can they be made interchangeable. Bush was saying to the United Nations, "Look, the Nazis' conviction of racial superiority generated a policy of systematic genocide; the Jews' experience of centuries of persecution in almost every country on earth generated a desire for a homeland of their own. If you manage somehow to convince yourself that these are the same, it is you, not the Zionists, who are morally confused, and the reason you are morally confused is that you have forgotten history."
A KEY DISTINCTION W HAT I want to say, following Bush's reasoning, is that a similar forgetting of history has in recent years allowed some people to argue, and argue persuasively, that affirmative action is reverse racism. The very phrase
