2. Strange Recipes
Thirty recipes for strange, scary dishes
http://www.halloweenshop.com/halloweenshop/strange_recipes.html
Blood soup This is an easy recipe. You will need a can of tomato soup and a pack of musksticks. First, cook the soup in a pan over a stove. Then break up the musk sticks and put them into the soup to create...blood soup with delicious fingers! Dead Fingers This is a shortbread type cookie that look like fingers. The dough is piped (use a bag without any tip to get a finger sized cylinder) onto the cookie sheet. Then using the dull side of a butter knife make lines suggesting knuckle and wrinkles, and add an almond for the fingernail. I found the unblanched variety look particularly creepy. You can add a bit of red icing (ie.that translucent yuk that comes in a tube) if you want a bloody finger. I have experimented with this idea and found it better to make an impression with the almond rather then bake them and "glue" the almonds to the finger afterwards with the "blood". This gives a new twist to the term "finger foods". Brain Cookies Ok if you're still with me, the next item is a brain cookie. You colour a icebox type dough a sickening purplish/gray shade and then push the dough through a colander to make extruded spaghetti shapes. Then you loosely pat spoonfuls of the dough into brain shapes (well at least most kids' notions of how a brain is shaped). I think I experimented with different kitchen tools with this one and ended up using one of those collapsable steamer things to make the spaghetti.

SELF FAMILY FAVORITE recipes. REF. OVEN MUSKRAT
http://my.cybersoup.com/oneself
Hope you are hungry! SELF FAMILY FAVORITE RECIPES REF OVEN MUSKRAT Use only hams or shoulders. Be careful when you skin or clean rat and don't cut into the musk glands on the lower part of the belly. Take out white stringy stuff from inside of each leg. Boil with one sliced onion for 30 minutes. Drain, flour the pieces, and put in baking pan. Salt and pepper and put 8 slices of bacon or salt pork on top. Put 1/4 cup of vinegar and 1/4 cup of water in pan and roast until tender. Baste often with juice in pan as rats are pretty dry. It may smell a little different to you while cooking, but you'll learn to really like it. Geez, this is neat. My Favorite Sites!

Our quest for the best bar in the himalayas made us experiment with locally available ingredients to develop our own substitutes for these liqueurs / cocktail mixes. Some of them were made by our team and few were the result of helpful suggestions from our guests... Here are the recipes of OLS used : MARASCHINO This is actually a brilliant liqueur made from Cherries from Italy's Veneto region. Our much humbler version can be made as follows: Remove pits from a tin of cocktail cherries. Put the cherries in half a bottle of white wine (preferably sweet). To increase the alcohol level, also pour about 50 ml of vodka in this mixture. Leave this mixture for 3 months (good things never come easy). Strain out the cherries and store it in a crystal decanter. Use as and when you want to.

Recipes Booze Basics - Demystified ... Vodka Tequila Wine Gin Tequila Demystified If there ever was a spirit replete with history, mystery and intrigue, it must be tequila. Even today, years after it's arrival on bar shelves, tequila is often regarded as a strange Mexican potion containing worms, hallucinogens, et al. And these same wondrous attributes have probably contributed towards establishing tequila as the most `hip' liquor to drink. Almost everyone I meet seems to want to know where they can find a bottle of this happening liquor. Yet most are uncertain about what it really is. There seems to be a strange fascination for drinking something which might have a worm floating in it. Yuck! Does it really Let's discover the inside story. Tequila-like spirits have been produced in Mexico from the age of the Aztecs, long before the arrival of its Spanish conquerers in the 16th century. It was in 1795 that Jose Cuervo, under a license from the government, began distilling tequila in the region of Jalisco (which includes the town of Tequila), where there was an ample supply of the Weber blue agave `cactus'. Actually, the agave is not a cactus at all but a sort of succulent, related to the aloe and lily family! Jose Cuervo is still one of the foremost brands of tequila in the world.

The Artichoke That Strange-Looking Vegetable by Donna Smith
Most of us know what an artichoke looks like. You eye it warily in the produce section as you pass by. You have to admit, it's a neat-looking vegetable, but what in the world do you do with it? My 79-year-old grandpa recently bought his very first artichoke then announced, "I bought one of those artichoke things, but I didn't eat it. I peeled off all those pokey leaves and there was nothing left, so I threw it away." Don't let this vegetable scare you! What Is It?
With its origin in the Mediterranean, the artichoke is a member of the thistle family. A single artichoke plant will produce 20 to 30 artichokes. The "Green Globe" variety is the most common and is harvested year-round. The main stem of the plant produces the largest artichokes, the middle branches produce medium-size artichokes, and the lower branches grow what are known as baby artichokes. When purchasing an artichoke, look for ones that are compact and heavy. They should be solid green in color. Don't select an artichoke that is purplish in color or budding, as this is a sign of being over-ripe.

    Very Strange Recipes
(If you invite friends over and serve these recipes, make sure you have other friends!) OPOSSUM AND SWEET POTATOES Hey, Jimmy Carter ate opossum when he was little, and he became President and won the Nobel Peace Prize! This and the next recipe are from "American Food" by Evan Jones. 1 opossum, about 2 1/2 lb., skinned and cleaned
    Salt
    Freshly ground pepper
    Flour
    1/2 C water
    4 medium-sized sweet potatoes
2 T. sugar Preheat oven to 350 F. Wipe opossum with a damp cloth and trim and discard excess fat. Mix salt with pepper and rub thoroughly into opossum, inside and out. Sprinkle inside and out with flour. Put opossum on its back in a roasting pan with a tight-fitting lid. Pour in water, cover, and roast in oven for about 50 minutes. Cut sweet potatoes in half lengthwise and surround opossum [note: I am laughing hysterically as I type this] with them. If water has evaporated, add enough to cover bottom of pan. Cover and return to oven for about 25 minutes more. Remove cover and sprinkle sweet potatoes with about 1/4 teaspoon salt and the sugar. Continue roasting until meat and potatoes become crisp on the surface. Makes 3 to 4 servings. SQUIRRELS IN A CLAY POT 1 t. ground savory
