63. Teaching Positions In Private Schools
while allowing too many poorly qualified individuals to teach. He proposes a primarypurpose is to provide youngsters a sound moral and religious education.
http://www.capenet.org/teach.html
Henry Adams once said, "A teacher affects eternity." Teachers in private schools profoundly appreciate the eternal dimensions of their work, for they nourish not only the minds but also the hearts and souls of their students. Serving in schools that emphasize a child's complete development, private school teachers have the privileged opportunity to transmit the core academic skills as well as the lessons that count most in life: lessons about spirituality, love, values, the wonder of creation, the purpose of existence. Can any work be more important? Indeed, the work of the private school teacher is of such significance, it is often regarded as a ministry and a calling, rather than just a job. Patty Quinn, a teacher at a private school in Maryland, described it this way: "I look at this job as a vocation, not as a career. I really think that the work that I'm doing has eternal consequences." ( Education Week , March 29, 2000) Private schools are wonderful places in which to teach. They offer caring, orderly, safe, and nurturing environments; they emphasize the education of the whole child; they insist on academic excellence; and they treat teachers as professionals, giving them considerable autonomy and independence in matters of instruction. The disciplined environment, rigorous curriculum, caring communities, and high expectations private schools provide make them some of the most effective schools in the country. Teachers in private schools can spend their time doing what they are supposed to be doing: teaching.

The big leap... Teaching A weekly guide for those who want to make a complete career change Tuesday November 5, 2002
The Guardian I'm completely fed up with banking. I'd like to become a teacher.
You and a lot of others. About 40% of entrants to initial teacher training - roughly 12,000 a year - are over 25. It's probably the most popular career change. But aren't I too old? I'm 39. And the rest. Seriously, there's no upper age limit for entry to teaching. Mature applicants are most welcome. How do I get in? Via a number of routes, the most popular for adult entrants who are graduates being the standard postgraduate certificate in education, a one-year programme available at higher education institutions around the country. A growing number of career changers - about 10% - are also coming in on the graduate teacher programme. Suppose I haven't got a degree? Then the most popular route is the registered teacher programme, for people who have two years of higher education or the equivalent. For all the options check out the Teacher Training Agency website below. I've some notion of what teachers did when I was at school but hasn't that all changed massively?

One of the less publicly championed consequences of the government's education policy has been the marked increase in the popularity of religious schooling. Much to the chagrin of such devout secularists as Lord Hattersley, Tony Blair early on signalled a distancing from Old Labour by his whole-hearted support for the principle of faith schools. Whereas the traditional social democrat comprehensive model prided itself on its non-denominational character, New Labour's competing marketplace of educational provision has no ethical difficulty with religious schooling.

What will my child learn about... God?
Our children learn about the historic Jesus, his life and times, and the impact of his ministry. They learn that Jesus was a loving human teacher who helped people to understand each other and be kind to one another. By incorporating the ideals of love, peace, and forgiveness taught by Jesus, we make the world a better place in which to live.

Guidance on Constitutionally Protected Prayer in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools February 7, 2003
Introduction Section 9524 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act ("ESEA") of 1965, as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, requires the Secretary to issue guidance on constitutionally protected prayer in public elementary and secondary schools. In addition, Section 9524 requires that, as a condition of receiving ESEA funds, a local educational agency ("LEA") must certify in writing to its State educational agency ("SEA") that it has no policy that prevents, or otherwise denies participation in, constitutionally protected prayer in public schools as set forth in this guidance. The Section 9524 Certification Process In order to receive funds under the ESEA, an LEA must certify in writing to its SEA that no policy of the LEA prevents, or otherwise denies participation in, constitutionally protected prayer in public elementary and secondary schools as set forth in this guidance. An LEA must provide this certification to the SEA by October 1, 2002, and by October 1 of each subsequent year during which the LEA participates in an ESEA program. However, as a transitional matter, given the timing of this guidance, the initial certification must be provided by an LEA to the SEA by March 15, 2003.

W HAT DO WE VALUE as Unitarian Universalists? What do we value as people, as human beings? Shouldn't those two things be the same?
Some people are "paper liberals" claiming to hold no prejudice against any person or lifestyle but doing nothing to speak out against injustice where or when they see it and doing nothing to promote justice. Their silence is witness against them. Some of us are "paper UUs", affirming but not promoting our principles, not putting them into practice. That lack is witness against us.
We believe that all deserve freedom from terror, access to education, freedom from hunger and thirst. We affirm and promote the right of all persons to have a vote about the things that concern them. Because of our belief in the interconnected web of all creation we believe in equal access to all things for all humans, not separate but equal, equal.
That is not to say that we deserve access to all things, some things should be preserved, maintained, even treasured. Sustainability in our lifestyles is a goal not enough of us are working toward. As a result there is still a horrendous amount of waste in the world and the distribution of assets is disgustingly unbalanced. These injustices are evident on a global scale. They are also evident locally; our neighborhoods are a microcosm of the worldwide situation.
We all have two sides, none of us are free of prejudice; we all lack courage sometimes. The degree to which we fight the urges or tendencies that make us less than proud of ourselves is the measure of our humanity, of our goodness, of our belief in and dedication to our principles, ethics, and morals.

Registration for Sacramental Preparation will come after your child has been enrolled in eh Catechism Class. Look to the sections referring to Sacramental Preparation for the dates to enroll your child in Reconciliation or Eucharist. T.I.O.F. is part of the ongoing education process of faith development all children must experience on their journey toward and beyond confirmation. As Catholics, we bring our children to Catechism Classes not just to receive a sacrament, but also to help them learn about their faith. T.I.O.F.

Introduction The Bachelor of Education Degree is designed to qualify students to teach in primary school. The degree is of three years' duration, consisting of 6 consecutive semesters of 15 weeks each and is of two parts: Part 1 is equivalent to year 1 and Part 2 comprises years 2 and 3.
"The fundamental aim of courses is to provide the professional and academic foundation for teachers’ careers, by providing a third-level education which will impart the knowledge and pedagogical skills necessary to teach the primary school curriculum." (Charting our Education Future, An Roinn Oideachais, 1996, p.122).
Three academic subjects must be taken in first year, one of which must be Gaeilge because of its centrality in the curriculum of the primary school. Thus, for the First Year (Part 1) candidates are required to attend and read for approved courses in:

In schools receiving full inspections in Key Stages 1 and 2, pupils' achievements, as judged by inspectors, in English, mathematics and science are good or better in just over half of primary schools. However, the gulf between what pupils achieve in the core subjects and in the rest of the curriculum remains a concern. Pupils' achievements in art, music and ICT, are good in about four in ten schools. Achievement in geography is good in under a quarter of schools, and achievement in design and technology, history and religious education is only marginally better.

January 24, 2002. The mission of religious education is to teach the faith.By Marlon De La Torre, Director of religious education, Diocese of Memphis.
http://cdom.org/wtc/wtc_archives/wtc012402/wtc_pages/feature_article3.html
January 24, 2002 The mission of religious education is to teach the faith By Marlon De La Torre, Director of Religious Education, Diocese of Memphis As therefore you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so live in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught abounding in thanksgiving. (Col 2:6-7) The ministry of authentic catechetical or religious instruction is the heart and aim of catechesis itself and what the Office of Religious Education strives for each day in its promotion of our Catholic faith. The term "Catechesis" means to instruct the faithful in a complete, organic, systematic way where all the elements of Catholic doctrine are taught. These elements include the Creed, all points of doctrine (i.e., Assumption, Immaculate Conception, Infallibility, Transubstantiation, Christ's presence in the Eucharist, etc.), along with a proper understanding of the Sacraments, the liturgy and Mass, the Ten Commandments and prayer. This may seem like a monumental task for some, however, the art of catechesis itself avails the opportunity to break these various teachings of the Church in an orderly manner so that a convoluted presentation of the faith is not developed. The Acts of the Apostles give us a foundation of authentic Catholic instruction immediately following Pentecost where the people; "devoted themselves to the Apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of the bread and the prayers." (2:42) Even from its inception by Christ, the Church was instructing its faithful. The Apostolic Succession established by Christ through Peter (Mt 16:16-19) and the subsequent founding of the Church provides us with a foundation of truth in Christ that was "passed on" to others orally (sacred tradition) and written (sacred scripture).
