'Athlete Volunteers in Action' Program a Rousing Success Nearly 200 student-athletes volunteered their time to participate in community activities throughout the year. May 17, 2001 KINGSTON, R.I. - As the URI academic year draws to a close, the new Athlete Volunteers in Action program was extremely successful. This program, instituted by the URI Athletic Department, coordinated the efforts of URI's coaches, student-athletes, Ram choices (a student-athletes leadership program), Rhody Talk (a student-athletes speaker's bureau) and the local community to develop volunteer opportunities in the community.
