Getting ONE WORLD Ready for TWO MEN Part 1
by Gary Hedrick
W e are living in extraordinary times. Before our very eyes, the stage is being set for the fulfillment of ancient prophecies foretelling the end of this age. Nonetheless, there are skeptics who scoff at the suggestion that anything out of the ordinary is happening. Among the doubters are postmillennialists, reconstructionists, preterists, and others who do not believe in the literal, premillennial return of our Lord. They point out, and correctly so, that many religious groups, at various times, have issued warnings about the impending end of the world. Up to this point, obviously, they have all been wrong. Some ministries tried to make a connection between the Y2K phenomenon and Bible prophecy. In 1998 and 1999, the Christian publishing market was flooded with books and videos explaining the supposed prophetic implications of Y2K. Some preachers claimed that God would use Y2K to mete out His judgment on a sinful and unbelieving world. One well-meaning Messianic rabbi even claimed that he found prophetic warnings about a Y2K disaster encoded in the Hebrew text of the Torah! The Roman Connection The Roman Empire ruled the world for roughly a thousand years before its government and political institutions declined and eventually disintegrated. But it has continued to exist in spirit, exerting its influence all over the known world during the past 1,500 years.

Art
in the Middle ages was inseparable from religion. It was infused with spiritual symbolism and meaning. The purpose of art was to awe and inspire the viewer with the grandeur of God. It also served to symbolize what people believed. Pope Gregory the Great, he of the Gregorian chants, said, "painting can do for the illiterate what writing does for those who read." He might have added that sculpture could serve the same purpose.

Roman London
The beginnings of London can be dated with some exactitude to the invasion of the Romans in 43AD. Prior to the Roman invasion there was no permanent settlement of significance on the site of London. Instead, the Thames River flowed through marshy ground sprinkled with small islands of gravel and sand. There were probably more mosquitoes than people inhabiting the area. Historical re-enactment of Roman soldiers The commander of the Roman troops was one Aulus Plautius. He pushed his men up from their landing place in Kent towards Colchester, then the most important town in Britain. The Roman advance was halted by the Thames, and Plautius was forced to build a bridge to get his men across.

Introduction
The Romans preserved much of the Greek culture and blended it with their own traditions to give us the Classical ideal. Their military conquests brought an empire to Rome that even surpassed that of Alexander the Great. For nearly a thousand years all roads led to Rome. From a small village on the Tiber River to the greatest Empire (Maps) the world had ever known, Rome left a rich heritage for all who followed. Back to Top
