BKC-International House Moscow established its Teacher Training Centre in 1996 when the first International House Certificate course was run. Since then our activity has expanded and we have enlarged the number of teacher training programmes.
BKC-IH has been conducting RSA/Cambridge CELTA courses since its approval in 1997 as a Teacher Training Centre for the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate. We also offer Cambridge/RSA DELTA courses
The centre has excellent resources, audio-visual aids and facilities, including training videos and a comprehensive library of dedicated training reference texts recommended by the University of Cambridge local examinations syndicate for the CELTA and DELTA courses. Furthermore, trainees have access to the vast selection of coursebooks, supplementary materials, journals and references available to teaching staff at BKC-IH.
As well as providing a foundation qualification for trainees based in Moscow, the courses attract a number of participants from outside the CIS who are interested in spending time in Russia in order to experience the richness and diversity of Russian culture.

F rom icons and onion domes to suprematism and the Stalin baroque, Russian art and architecture seems to many visitors to Russia to be a rather baffling array of exotic forms and alien sensibilities. Without any sense of the rich tradition of Russian culture, an appreciation of the country's enormous artistic wealth becomes a game of historical anecdote"the church where so-and-so took refuge from what's-his-name"or a meaningless collection of aesthetic baubles"I like the blue domes the best." In fact, Russian art and architecture are not nearly so difficult to understand as many people think, and knowing even a little bit about why they look the way they do and what they mean brings to life the culture and personality of the entire country. Icons The best collections of icons are to be found in the Tretyakov Gallery and the Russian Museum, though of course many Russian churches have preserved or restored their traditional works. The Great Experiment The rising influence of European culture in Russia during the 17th and 18th centuries brought Russian artwork closer to the familiar traditions of western painting. It wasn't until the end of the 19th century that the next great body of uniquely Russian artistic styles arose, having developed in conjunction with liberal forces of social reform. This modern movement took many different directions almost from its inception, and it would be impossible to describe all of them. However, even a very general acquaintance with their common ideas and interests makes their work much more accessible.

Demonstration: Your Colleagues - 1 The Hoover Institution Archives recently concluded a joint project with the Museum of Russian Culture in San Francisco, funded by an NEH grant to process and microfilm the Museum's most significant archival holdings. This project was concluded with the launch of a bilingual English/Russian web site that has created a unique virtual archival space. Founded more than 50 years ago, the Museum of Russian Culture is one of the major repositories of Russian ‚migr‚ documents, and also contains materials related to the history and culture of Russia. I will show how an elaborated virtual archival experience was created that included in some way all the components of a ?brick and mortar? archives: finding aids, some documents (photographs), reference materials (biographical notes), search, and reference questions options. The site serves both serious researchers and the general public, including the families and descendants of Russian ‚migr‚s. Historians can use the online register to easily locate the exact box and folder they need for a specific topic. The site presents numerous vintage photos and background information to hold the interest of those simply curious about the culture of Russia Abroad.
