Scientist biographies. Qualities of scientists. If you have identified or preparedguide documents on the Web that cover specific skills needed for this lesson
    http://www.cedu.niu.edu/scied/verizon/WEBQUEST/process.htm
The Process To accomplish the task, you will need to investigate a number of scientists and look for their common traits: what qualities make them successful? What skills does it take to "do" science? As you look at the biographies of a number of scientists, what qualities do they have in common? Do they persevere? What roles do curiosity and imagination take place in their work? By studying a variety of scientists, you will provide answers to those questions and mroe. As you go through the project, you will need to select three scientists that best demonstrate these qualities. You will create a profile of these scientists in the form of a trading cardthis will give a short description of what these people have done that made them memorable. In your role as the "headhunter" for a firm, you and your partners will need to find the one scientist from among all that you selected. This scientist is the one that best demonstrates the qualities of a scientist. Use those criteria to make your "best" hiring decision. You will present your work through a PowerPoint presentation.

This guide is intended to help you locate information on the lives of people who have played important roles in the development of the sciences. Before beginning your search, try to decide whether your subject is a contemporary or historical figure. Many sources include all time periods but often the work will be limited to cover only those who are deceased or only living subjects. This guide provides examples of sources and should not be considered a comprehensive list of library resources. GENERAL SOURCES These sources draw biographical information on many people together into one work, usually taking the form of a dictionary, encyclopedia, or directory. http://www.upei.ca/~xliu/multi-culture/excl.htm
Reference Encyclopaedias The information contained within the biographies of scientists from multicultural backgrounds was gathered through the use of three encyclopaedias - The New Encyclopaedia Britannica, Encyclopaedia Americana and Encyclopaedia International, as well as one textbook entitled, Science In The Multicultural Classroom. The New Encyclopaedia Britannica, published in 1994 (15th edition) by the Peter B. Norton Publishing Group, relies upon editorial advice from committee members from numerous university faculties from Australia, Canada, England, Scotland, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, France and the Netherlands, for the information contained within its volumes. The index is arranged alphabetically and if the scientists are known by other names, which was quite common during the early and medieval periods, then all known names are stated in the index entry. Also appearing in the index entry after the name are the scientists' nationality and vocation in brackets. Listed under each name, the index entry provides cross-references as well as stating the specific subject in conjunction with the scientists to which reference is being made. The entries in the encyclopaedia volumes begin by stating, in full, the name of the scientists and in brackets the year of birth (sometimes an approximation) and the year of death (if applicable) as well as the date and place of birth and death, if known. If the name of a city or region has changed, then the new names are stated in brackets.

    Abstract:
The astronomical community has become rapidly a wide user of the World Wide Web. It proved to be particularly useful at many different levels: individual institutes providing descriptions of their local facilities, often including links to staff personal pages; distributed organizations, often at an international scale, with cross-referenced sets of documents from different sites; databases and information systems related to specific space or ground-based observing facilities; networks of astronomical or related space science facilities listed above; yellow-page services and compilations of anchors towards all these services, including databases of personal pages, which can be browsed or searched by keywords. Beyond participating in the AstroWeb consortium, our institution provides WWW access to the databases of the
