Happy Feet Assured Contact us to advertise in this space for as little as £100 per annum. The Scottish Dance Index enables dancers to make full use of their music resources. This index lists, in alphabetical order, all the dances for which the music is available on CD, and the album on which it is to be found. Further information on the list gives the type of dance (Reel, Jig, Strathspey, Medley, Waltz), the number of repeats as played on this particular album, and the number of bars. The CDs are identified in the list by their product ID, unique to each CD and therefore eliminating confusion between similar album titles, and the name of the artiste or band. The final column of figures, headed "pace", shows the speed at which the dances are played, the figure being the time in seconds for thirty two bars of music on that particular track. Dancers can now not only trace their favourite dance to a particular album, but also, where more than one artiste has recorded it, select their CD according to either the style or the speed of the music they desire. Key # played using a different initial tune to normal.

ASILOMAR 2003 INFO NOW ONLINE!
Welcome to the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, San Francisco Branch.
Scottish Country Dancing is the traditional ballroom dancing of Scotland. The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS), based in Edinburgh, was founded in 1923 to preserve this joyful social dance tradition. Since then Scottish Country Dancing has spread all over the world. Unlike Highland dances, which are usually solo performances accompanied by bagpipes, Country dances are danced with partners in sets of two or more couples doing an exciting variety of formations. The music, performed live at parties and some classes, is provided by a fiddle and piano, or by a whole band. Dance tempos vary from lively jigs, hornpipes and reels, to the elegant, slower strathspeys. Interested in trying Scottish Country Dancing? Come by yourself or with a friend. No partners are needed to attend classes or parties, and you need not be Scottish to enjoy the fun. Sessions for new beginners start every September in most locations and at other times in some cities. The cost is generally $5 or less per class. Please check out class schedules , browse our bookstore , or look over our events . Join us!

Recent Changes:
  • Unfortunately our April workshop has been canceled. But the dance party is still in the evening April 5. Beware of virus - the webmaster e-mail has been receiving a lot of copies of the "W32.Yaha.K@mm" e-mail worm lately. This site and the webmaster e-mail do not pass it along, but the fact that I am getting these copies suggests that some users of this website have infected machines. (The e-mail containing the worm varies, but usually purports to be a screen saver or a virus scaner fix.) Further information on this worm, and detection/removal instructions are available from McAfee or Symantec May Ball Program change - I'll Mak Ye Fain to Follow Me is being replaced by The Happy Meeting.

32. About The Kansas City Scottish Country Dancers
Information on dance lessons and instruction, workshops, classes.
http://www.kcscottishdancers.com
an affiliate of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society
The Kansas City Scottish Country Dancers is an organization whose members share an interest in Scottish Country dance and music.
Country dance usually involves a "set" - a group of four to eight people - dancing a series of formations to the driving strains of reels, jigs, and strathspeys played on the fiddle, accordian, piano and/or bagpipes.
So long as there's a good rousing tune or two, good company, and an excuse to dance, there will always be Scots handy with their feet. But you don't have to be a Scot to find your foot tapping to the irresistible rhythms or to be captivated by a style of dance that is above all happy, lively, and sociable.
Join us! You certainly won't be left sitting on the sidelines. Come dance with the Kansas City Scottish Country Dancers!

Asilomar Ball in Merrill Hall
Scottish country dancing is the Traditional Ballroom Dance of Scotland. The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, based in Edinburgh, was founded to preserve this joyful social dance tradition. And, it's not just for Scots ... today people enjoy Scottish Country Dancing all over the world. Unlike Highland dances, which are usually solos to bagpipe music, we dance in sets of two to five couples. Everyone changes partners for each dance, so there's no need to bring a partner! The San Francisco Bay area is home to many fine musicians . The dances vary in tempo: lively and fast paced or slow and elegant:
  • Jigs (quick time)
  • Reels (quick time)
  • Strathspeys (slow and lovely)
Fiddles and piano, along with recorders, bass, drums, and accordians are typical. Like other Celtic music, Scottish music is highly emotional - both the lively quicktime tunes and the hidden power of a strathspey will make your heartstrings thrum!

Danced in the barns and croft houses, the ballrooms and the castles of Scotland for centuries, Scottish Country Dancing captures the spirit, the wonder, and the music of Scotland. Learn Scottish Jigs and Reels, Hornpipes and Rants, and the elegant Strathspey. The form of dancing is sets of couples, but you don't need a partner to join the fun.
