Country Flag ... Travel Warning History Slovakia existed as part of Hungary from the beginning of the 10th century until 1918, when it united with the Czech lands of Bohemia and Moravia, in addition to a small part of Silesia, to form Czechoslovakia. In 1939, shortly before the start of World War II, Slovakia declared its independence under pressure from German dictator Adolf Hitler, but in 1945 it was reunited with the rest of Czechoslovakia. From 1948 until 1989 Czechoslovakia was ruled by a Soviet-style Communist regime. During the yaer 1993 the country broke apart, and Slovakia became independent. Culture The development of Slovak culture reflects the country's rich folk tradition, in addition to the influence of broader European trends.

WALKING AND CULTURE IN SLOVAKIA
ATYPUS® Ltd
Click here for info This walking programme offers a great opportunity to visit two (or three) beautiful and different mountain areas of Slovakia, which are known for their excellent hiking possibilities and well preserved wildlife. This is also an excellent choice for all wildflower lovers as some of the best botanical areas are accessible only by foot. June and July is probably the best time of year due to the high density of Alpine flowers in bloom, although August and September also offer a nice range of attractions. In contrast with the natural beauties of these areas, the trip may be ended in Prague - the pearl of the historical monuments of Europe. It is possible to arrange this programme without a stay in Prague, but starting and finishing in Vienna (Austria) or Krakow (Poland).
