Snowmobile Maine. Ride Right. Enjoy.

Join Us On The Trails!
For over thirty years, the members of the Maine Snowmobile Association (MSA) have been building and maintaining a system of snow trails for the enjoyment of all who love to explore the winter landscape.
From its early tracings of snowmobile-dragged pathways from dooryard to dooryard in rural areas of the state, the system has grown to over 13,000 miles of groomed and marked trail, connecting communities from the suburbs of southern Maine, downeast to the coastal plains, through the western and northwestern highlands and on to the deep woods and farmlands of northern Maine.
Nearly one hundred thousand snowmobilers traveled the system last winter, following the smooth white ribbon of snow created by MSA members. Thousands of Maine businesses benefit from the sport, providing goods and services to snowmobilers as they ride from town to town and supporting this massive effort of trail creation through their membership in MSA clubs.
Trail workers across the state are proud of their product - and all claim to have the best trails!

Poll Question The following question will help policy leaders understand if Americans truly realize what "designated wilderness" means. It is important to understand the designation because 104 million acres of land is designated wilderness and that equates to the size of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania combined. By any measure, 104 million acres is a lot of property.
When land is designated "wilderness" there are strict use standards that are imposed. Do you know what actions are prohibited and which actions are allowed on public land that has been designated "wilderness" by the US Congress? Yes No No Opinion View Results Safe Riders! Information Extremists Trying to Derail New EPA Snowmobile Regulations for Air Quality Improvement
Snowmobile Makers File Counter Suit to Ensure Timely Enforcement of New Emission Standards FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Ed Klim Haslett, MI, (January 8, 2003) - While disregarding years of scientific study, environmental activists are trying to block new EPA emission regulations for off-road vehicles. The move has forced snowmobile manufacturers to file a counter suit to ensure timely enforcement of the new regulations to improve air quality.
The International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association (ISMA) yesterday filed a counter suit in the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, to stop legal maneuvers by radical environmental groups that could leave the U.S. without new standards and an orderly timetable for reducing snowmobile exhaust emissions.

S nowmobiling on the Chippewa
Under a blanket of snow, the Chippewa National Forest becomes a land of unexplored adventures. Over 330 miles of snowmobile trails provide snowmobilers access to 1,500 lakes, scenic woodlands, and frozen wetlands. Trails connect to nearly 200 miles of routes surrounding the Forest. The Soo Line trail, an old railroad grade extending from Cass Lake to Moose Lake, is the longest motorized recreation trail in Minnesota. Snowmobilers may also travel on unplowed National Forest roads unless posted closed to recreational motor vehicle use. Cross-country travel off of Forest roads is prohibited. Snowmobiles must be operated in compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations. A Chippewa National Forest map is helpful to identify designated Forest roads and trails. Maps for specific snowmobile trails are available from county offices, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and National Forest offices. Most snowmobile trails are grant-in-aid trails managed and maintained by snowmobile clubs.
