50. Afrim's Soccer: Afrim's Soccer History

http://www.afrimsports.com/history.html
How it all began... The Albany Patroons moved out, and Afrim's Sports moved in. Fall of 1990 one large field was installed at the Washington Avenue Armory. Owner Afrim Nezaj, having recently graduated from SUNY Albany, wanted a place for him and his friends to play soccer. Afrim purchased the hockey style boards from the recently disbanded N.Y. Kick professional soccer team, and rented space in the Washington Avenue Armory. It turned out that many other community members shared Afrim's love of soccer. As the number of adult teams increased, Afrim expanded the Armory into two fields, both partially surrounded with hockey style boards, wooden floors still remaining. Youth leagues began to compete at the facility. One year later the field was turfed, and girls teams began participating in Afrim's Indoor Soccer League. The following season field two was turfed and the soccer shop moved from Westgate Plaza and Northway Mall - into the Washington Avenue facility. In 1996 the ice was melted at the Center City Sportsplex and astroturf was placed inside the hockey rink. The opening of one of the largest indoor soccer fields in the Northeast was an excellent move by Afrim Nezaj and the Center City Committee. The City of Schenectady had been operating that facility in the red for several years. The community was searching for new places to play soccer as gym space became harder to book and kids began to compete at higher levels. The addition of the larger field to Afrim's Sports allowed more athletes to participate at one time, and more levels to be offered (A,B,C).

History Country Costa Rica Abbreviation CRC Confederation CONCACAF National team nickname Ticos FIFA World Cup TM appearances FIFA World Cup TM Champions None History Costa Rica is widely considered the rising star of the CONCACAF region, and rightly so.
Quickly warming to the game after its introduction by English industrialists and railroad engineers in the waning years of the 19th century, Costa Rica failed to distinguish itself initially as a force on the Central American scene.
The modern game was first played in the capital of San Jose in the late 1880s, and the game quickly spread in all directions, engulfing the entire nation.
The natives took to the game with aplomb, and in the early years of the 20th century semi-organized football clubs began to spring up along the length and breadth of the Central American nation.
The initial fascination with the game was hinged upon open, attacking flair, with goals aplenty, and those honest, forthright roots still stick with the Tico sides of today.
Seven Costa Rican clubs came together in 1901, and again in 1912, in a vain attempt to consolidate a loose federation of clubs into a national league. The attempts failed on both occasions, but they inspired a sense of urgency and drive in an increasingly football-mad nation.

SOCCER 101
WORLD SOCCER HISTORY World Soccer History Timeline The origin of football can be found in every corner of geography and history. The Italians, Chinese, Japanese, Egyptians, Ancient Greeks, Toltecs, Native American Indians, Persians, Central Americans, Scottish Clans, Vikings and Assyrians played a ball game long before our era. Later, the Roman harpastum, using a bull's bladder, reached the shores of the Atlantic when the legions conquered Gaul. This game led the way to soule, considered together with the Florentine calcio which emerged during the Renaissance, as the real ancestor of football. Football and handball games reach back to the first steps of the human race. Over thousands of years, ancient communities introduced rules to their elementary play of kicking and throwing. Games also embellished religious or tribal festivals. The Chinese played "football" games at least 3000 years ago. It is suspected strongly that the shadowy Celtic nations of Europe and the Vikings had rather nasty football ceremonies. In South and Central America a game called "Tlatchi" once flourished. The Ancient Greeks and the Romans used football games to sharpen warriors for battle. Roman games such as Harpastum or Paganica, which all had elements of kicking or running with the ball, spread Europe-wide with their empire's armies. Traditional football games played throughout Europe in centuries past are still being staged in modern times, especially in the British Isles. They usually include an element of mob battles and chases over countryside and through water. Undertones of ancient Celtic pagan ceremonies as well

History
C.H. Draft tells the tale: The idea of Truck Soccer evolved out of a general desire to drive remote-control cars around and smash 'em. Guy Worthy had spoken of this desire several times early in 1997, to the point where he was ready to dig up a large portion of his backyard to make a dirt track. Of course, there was more to it than this; basic, common sense enhancements to the cars were discussed. Things like grappling hooks, flame throwers, and the like. There were some interesting cheap remote-control cars that already had cheap, snap-on weirdo stuff, but it all seemed rather wimpy. More importantly, none of these cars had more than two unique frequencies. I don't have to explain that, do I? What it meant, rather simply, was that only two cars could race at the same time. Any more cars, and the frequencies crossed. No good. So we started looking at the more expensive cars. And even more expensive. Then we started looking in the glass cases. And there it was. The big one. The Scorpion II. Six frequencies, one hunnerd dollars. Who's got that kind of money? I don't.

Wallpapers History of soccer
The hisotry of soccer officially began in England in the mid-19th century, and was commonly associated with exclusive private schools. However, social standing could not contain the popularity of the game, and soccer began to be played and watched by individuals from all social backgrounds. Football clubs and organisations began to be appear as early as 1855. Shortly thereafter the Football Association of London was established. As the sport spread throughout England, it was obvious to all that geographical borders would not contain this spectacular spectator sport.
Soccer began to spread throughout the world like an infectious disease, and the need to regulate and standardise this sport arose in the minds of some. FIFA was thus born. FIFA (the acronym for Federation Internationale de Football Association) is the international body which administers standardised soccer rules, and regulates the running of the World Cup Soccer Competition. This organisation came into being in 1904, and though dogged by red-tape and the typical in-fighting one sees in any organisation, most would agree it has done a satisfactory job at regulating this international sport.
