The Charleston County Parent Alliance was established in October 2000 to bring various parent groups together with representatives from the school district to work collaboratively for the good of Charleston County School District and its 44,000 students. The mission of The Parent Alliance is "to further excellence in education for all children by shaping an effective community of families, educators, and stakeholders." Currently, the Alliance has identified two priority areas on which to focus its collective efforts: 1) accountability for teachers, administrators, and parent, and 2) parents "at the table" in decision-making.
