Unintended Humor:
These are reported as actual instructions given by manuals or directions accompanying consumer products. One hardly knows who to blame: the writers who may have thought this stuff up on their own; the lawyers who demanded such warnings; or perhaps the consumers who wrote to make complaints along the bizarre lines suggested. The general advice to avoid such writing might be: engage brain before writing.
Sears hairdryer: Do not use while sleeping. Fritos: You could be a winner! No purchase necessary. Details inside the bag. Dial soap: Directions: use like regular soap. Swanson frozen dinners: Serving suggestions: defrost. Bottom of Tesco's Tiramisu dessert box: Do not turn upside down. Product will be hot after heating. Rowenta iron: Do not iron clothes on body. Boot's CHILDREN'S (their capitals) Cough Medicine: Do not drive a car or

CURRICULUM 2000 Curriculum 2000 is a nationwide change to the post-16 curriculum. It seeks to ensure a greater breadth of study as well as a greater flexibility in choice and combination of subjects. The A level is divided into two parts. The Advanced Subsidiary (AS) level taught in the Lower Sixth and the A2 level taught in the Upper Sixth, which leads to the full A level qualification. Each subject is taught and examined in six units (three for AS level and three for A2 level). There will be a new first year examination, Advanced Subsidiary (AS). Each unit can be retaken once only. The AS material covers half the course and represents half of the final award, and is separately certificated. A Level Studies All students at the RGS will be expected to study four Advanced Subsidiary (AS) subjects in the Lower Sixth. In the Upper Sixth most students will study for three A levels (A2), but we will encourage as many as possible to continue with all four subjects. Enrichment Curriculum We believe that at the RGS we have a broad and balanced curriculum of proven worth and excellence. In addition to the main course of study, a student will be able to choose from an impressive range of subjects and activities which will complement and enrich his time in our Sixth Form.

8.1 This is a very good department. Pupils' attainment is at and beyond the level for their ability, and public examination results are better than those of maintained selective schools. 8.2 In many cases, pupils are exceeding national expectations. For example, a Year 9 low ability set and a Year 10 middle ability set showed excellent skills and responses in the lessons observed. In the higher ability range, sophisticated levels of discussion were demonstrated by large numbers of pupils. Written work was similarly very good. It was well presented and showed good levels of attainment across all age groups and ability levels. 8.4 Across all ages pupils make good progress. In Key Stage 4 and in the sixth form, pupils progressed well in their discussions, which were very stimulating. Those pupils who requires support for special needs or for English as an additional language also made good progress. 8.5 Pupils across all years are attentive and enthusiastic and very well behaved in class. They show an impressive willingness to learn and a pride in their written work. Relationships between pupils and staff are friendly, and an atmosphere of mutual respect is apparent. The teaching observed across the full range of year groups was almost all good and much of it was very good. A wide range of material was used and the department's tradition of using literature as much as possible in the GCSE language course was clear to see. The teachers were well in command of the subject matter, and intellectual debate of a high order took place in the A-level lessons. Teachers were aware of pupils with additional educational needs and supported them appropriately.
