The Eisenhower Regional Consortium for Mathematics and Science Education This handbook is provided through funding from Eisenhower Regional Consortium for Mathematics and Science Education at AEL. The Consortium promotes and supports systemic reform in mathematics and science education in Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. The Consortium builds on existing resources and creates partnerships that cut across state boundaries to link public schools, private schools, state and local education agencies, business and industry, informal science establishments, and higher education institutions. The Consortium’s efforts are guided by a vision reflected in the national mathematics and science education standards that promotes active involvement in learning; recognizes teachers and students as thinkers, investigators, and problems solvers; encourages teachers to reflect on their teaching; believes that all students can learn; and promotes the use of real-life situations to make connections to mathematics and science.

Did you know that if people with disabilities voted at the same rate as the non-disabled, 7 million more votes would have been cast in the last presidential election? In Tennessee, that translates to an additional 133,600 votes that would have been cast. Voting is a civil right! Not being able to vote is a denial of citizenship. Voting is also an important way to advance our disability agenda the full and equal participation of Tennessee citizens with disabilities in all aspects of life.

Curriculum Fair Info!
(An excerpt from the CSTHEA Handbook) 1999 was an excellent year for home education in Tennessee. The Legislature had other issues on its plate that session, such as taxes and gambling, so we survived the standard attempts to restrict the rights of home educators. Furthermore, blatant disregard of the rights of home educators in the juvenile court system led to court cases with results that, simply stated, stopped overzealous attendance teachers (truancy officers) and judges in their tracks. Most important, however, was the action taken by Governor Sundquist and his Commissioner of Education, Jane Walters. For years we had been meeting with the Governor, Dr. Walters, and her legal staff to undo some of the harm caused by the 1996 revisions to the homeschool law. We finally succeeded, as evidenced by the Memorandum from Commissioner Walters , included hereafter in this handbook. 1. Home Education in Association with a Church-Related School (CRS)
