Texas Genealogy Register
(Guidelines for Posting Family Register Entries)
For the benefit of all participants in this register and for maximum response to your inquiry, please prepare your entries according to the following guidelines.
  • Keep the text of all entries to approximately thirty (30) words or less. This allows viewers to scan more rapidly through numerous postings to locate the ones of most interest to their particular research. We have found also that a brief well constructed inquiry will produce the largest number of responses.
  • Information for each posting should include:
    • SURNAME,
    • Text of inquiry (identify the subject family as uniquely as possible; as a minimum, this should always include the FULL NAME of a member of the family, and a LOCATION and TIMEFRAME that they lived in Texas),
    • Your full name,
    • Your postal address (we've had many instances where viewers are not able to reply to an inquiry because of incorrect or outdated email addresses. To help avoid this, we now require that postal addresses be included with each inquiry), and
    • Your email address
  • Please focus your inquiry on a single family surname. For now, we ask that you limit your total number of entries to one or two families that you are most interested in researching.

Texas Counties Index
Welcome to the Milam County, Texas TXGenWeb Project Genealogy site.
The municipality of Milam was officially named by the Texas Consultation of 1835 to replace the municipality of Viesca, which is assumed to have had identical boundaries with the Sterling C. Robertson colony. Robertson and George Childress represented the municipality of Milam at the Convention of 1836 at Washington-on-the-Brazos. With the passage of laws by the First Congress of the republic organizing county governments on December 19 and 20, 1836, the municipality became Milam County. Milam County is in east central Texas 150-miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico and is bordered by Robertson, Burleson, Lee, Williamson, Bell, and Falls counties. Cameron, the county seat, is at the intersection of U.S. highways 77 and 190 on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, 60-miles northeast of Austin and 140-miles south of Dallas. The county's center lies 4-miles south of Cameron at 30°47' north latitude and 96°59' west longitude. The present county covers 1,019 square miles of level to slightly rolling terrain at an elevation that ranges from 250 to 600 feet above sea level.
