UPCOMING PRODUCTIONS Regent University Theatre Presents “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Regent University presents the 1999 Tony-award winning musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” which opens March 14 and runs through March 23. “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” features a collection of short sketches based on the comic strip “Peanuts” by Charles Schultz, ranging from Snoopy’s imaginary aerial dogfights to Lucy’s hanging in rapt adoration on Schroeder’s piano. This Broadway musical revival brings to life a half-dozen figures from the beloved comic, including Charlie Brown, his sassy younger sister Sally, the philosophical, security-blanket clutching Linus, Beethoven-loving Schroeder, the irascible, psychological-advice dispensing Lucy and the hippest character in the bunch, Snoopy. “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” is directed by Joshua Tucker with book, music and lyrics by Clark M. Gesner. The show features Frank Hargreaves, Christopher Nelson, Heidi Nemecz, Lisa Hagen, Ben Jackson and John Adams. he SHSU theatre program has moved one step closer to performing in the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. with the selection of two of its productions as regional participants in the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival program. "What makes this feat even more outstanding is that this is only the second year for the SHSU Theatre Department to participate in the competition after a 20-year absence," said Jim Miller, who chairs the theatre and dance department. The productions, "The Laramie Project," and "Rich, Red Clay," were two of only seven shows chosen for the program's Region VI Festival, which will be held at Texas Christian University Feb. 25-March 1, 2003. Region VI includes colleges and universities from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and New Mexico.

This gripping drama tells the true story of Agnete Ottosen, a poet who fought in the Danish Resistance against Nazi occupation. Ottosen, the great aunt of the playwright herself, left behind numerous diaries from which the story emerges. In a swirling and epic tale, we trace her struggle; from rescue of the Jews, through espionage, eventual capture, and final liberation. Heart-rending and impassioned, yet full of dry Nordic wit, The Danish Play is about the conflict between nationalism, patriotism and the role of women in society.

Theatre productions
International Society's Theatre Program began with a production of an English version of Yao Ke's Malice of An Empire staged at the Mass College of Art's Tower Auditorium in 1985 . It was a bold and ambitious attempt because it involved a large cast, an overwhelming number of costumes and complex sets but no professional theatre artists were involved. It was a zealous act of the producer who had a passion and a noble goal to introduced major Chinese theatre works to Massachusetts audience. A review raved about the originally designed and constructed costumes. They were indeed very beautiful and authentic. In 1998 our facility was totally transformed into a theatre/gallery. Our Theatre Program has since a permanent home. In 1999 our Theatre-Company-In-Residence program was established.

Performing in productions is an integral part of the Musical Theatre training program, an opportunity to put into practice what students have learned in the classrooms, dance studios and practice rooms. At CCM, the "main stage" musicals are part of a larger subscription series which also offers dramas and operas to our loyal theatregoers. These musicals are staged in Corbett Auditorium, a proscenium house, and the Patricia Corbett Theatre, a modified thrust stage. In addition three workshop productions are mounted each season in the Studio Theatre, a fully flexible "black-box" space. During the summer, three musicals are presented in rotating repertory in the Patricia Corbett Theatre as part of the
