Introduction European Studies - a program for everyone interested in actively participating in Poland's relations with Western Europe, integration processes and cooperation between foreign companies. The European Studies program was first offered to students of the University of Economics in the academic year 1993/1994. This new specialization is a response to Poland's growing contacts with Western Europe and the increasingly more intensive integration processes taking place in Europe. Having become an Associate Member of the European Union, Poland has been establishing new and maintaining old ties with other countries and communities of Europe. How effective these ties are depends on, besides institutional factors, our own competence. It is therefore essential to train specialists knowledgeable about the complex problems of European Communities and Unions, their external and internal relations as well as adjustment processes in countries applying for membership. The association and future full membership require that a new approach be adopted by companies, social institutions, local and regional administrations, scientific and technical institutions and individuals aspiring to play an active role in the countries and communities of Europe.
