Recreational Water Skiing Recreational skiers often come ski with us when they are wanting to advance further. In a typical week, we can teach a skier to go over the jump, learn to do basic tricks and run the slalom course. Some recreational skiers come solely for one event, while others prefer to do all three events. Skiers have unlimited skiing time each day. All ages are welcome.

Downloads : Water skiing trial for Ross River Dam WATER SKIING TRIAL FOR ROSS RIVER DAM 1. What is happening regarding water skiing on Ross River Dam? NQ Water has decided to allow the Townsville Water Ski Club to use the Ross River Dam on a trial basis starting from June 2001. The Club already uses the Dam for competition events for 12 weekends each year - this has been the case for many years. Six to 14 boats participate in these events, racing over either a 13.5 km or 5.3 km course. There has also been some limited use of the Dam for training by our world champions. Ross River Dam offers the only stretch of calm water suitable for long course events. This is particularly significant given the number of champion skiers based in the local area, including the state and national barefoot water ski champions, and the world disabled slalom and jump champion. For the period of the trial, Townsville Water Ski Club will be able to use a restricted area of Ross River Dam. An exclusion zone has been created from the spillway out to 500m. Non-members of the Townsville Water Ski Club will not have access to the Dam for water skiing until completion of the trial and installation of required infrastructure.

A REVIEW OF WATER-SKIING SAFETY IN THE USA
by
Roberts, Charles C., Jr., Ph.D.

46W192 Granart Rd., Big Rock, IL 60511, USA
ABSTRACT
Water-skiing safety in the United States of America is primarily governed by the American Water Ski Association (AWSA). Safety information, equipment standards, and competition safety procedures are among many of the documents promulgated by the association. Water-skiing equipment related standards and procedures are reviewed. A U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Nation Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) survey of water-skiing injuries was performed over a period from 1980-1991 showing injury trends over that period. Data on injury modes is presented. Typical water-skiing safety equipment is presented along with equipment characteristics. Future safety related developments are discussed.
INTRODUCTION
The first person to water-ski did so in 1922 in the state of Minnesota, USA. He used two large skis and was towed by an airplane equipped with floats. Water-skiing evolved to its present form with nearly 17 million Americans water-skiing (1).
Water-skiing takes the form of slalom skiing, trick skiing, jumping, knee boarding, ski-boarding, speed skiing, kite flying, show skiing, and barefoot water-skiing.

Water Skiing in the Shuswap
Table of Contents
Water skiing is a big attraction on the Shuswap lake. The lake is very large, so there is no worry about overcrowding, except at the docks. The lake is usually in ideal water skiing conditions, but the water does sometimes seem to be on the cold side. It also does not take long for a couple boats to chop up the water a bit. Knee boarding, wake boarding, tubing, and barefoot skiing are also large attractions. There are also some paragliders. Paragliders are attached to a large parachute who start off on the beach, and get pulled by a boat. The boat speeds ahead, and the parachute lifts up the person a couple hundred feet above the lake. There are also may houseboats on the lake. One small town called Sicamous is considered the houseboat capital of Canada because there are so many houseboats for rent there, well over 100. Clubs and Ski Schools are the places to go for local-level water ski activity. If you're looking for instruction or a chance to try an entry-level tournament, or just want to talk about skiing with skiers, try contacting a local club or ski school. Search: Safety Federal Requirements Metlife Safety Tips Consumer Advisories Boating Safety Courses U.S. Aids to Navigation Boating Under the Influence ... Site Map MetLife Boat Safety Tips Safety Tips for Water-skiing Water-skiing is an exciting and challenging sport. However, like all "fast-action" sports that are fun, it does possess an element of risk. Many skiers and boaters are not aware of the potential hazards of water-skiing and as a result, are hurt or even killed pursuing this recreational sport. Attention to hazards in the area where you are skiing is especially critical due to the ever growing number of boats out on the water. The Ski Area
The size of the water area in which you intend to ski determines the number of boats and skiers that can operate within it at the same time. Each boat should be able to maintain a 200 foot wide "ski corridor" (100 feet on either side of the boat). The entire "skiing course" should be at least 2,000 - 3,000 feet long to avoid constant turning and risky maneuvering. A minimum depth of five to six feet of obstacle-free water is suggested for safe skiing to:
  • Keep the skis from dragging bottom during starts.
