Academic Challenge
Drs. David and Shirley Wright gave the academic challenge speech at the University of Dayton Convocation for new students on August 21, 2001.
Research
Developmental and Cell Biology
Research is directed towards understanding cell motility and the nuclear and cytoskeletal aspects of fertilization. Pronuclear development is a pivotal period during fertilization, because the successful genetic reactivation of the dormant sperm nucleus and maternal chromatin by egg cytoplasm is essential for bipartental embryonic development. One project of the lab is to use an in vitro nuclear system to elucidate the factors regulating male pronuclear development at the cellular and molecular levels. Another area of research analyzes the role of the cytoskeleton in the fertilization process. These projects utilize fluorescence microscopy, video microscopy, and biochemical techniques. The object of these investigations is to gain an understanding of the nucleocytoplasmic interactions in cells.

Alumni Form To help schools improve partnerships with families of children with disabilities, the Department of Public Instruction developed the Wisconsin Statewide Parent-Educator Initiative (WSPEI). WSPEI is a service for parents, educators, and others interested in parent-educator partnerships for children with disabilities. CESA-7 has two Parent Liaisons and one Special Education Support Teacher available free of charge to consult with parents, educators, and community members to further support the development of partnerships among schools and families in the education of children with disabilities. All three of our WSPEI staff are parents of children with special needs. How WSPEI can help....... WSPEI can assist parents one on one in preparing for their child's IEP, we can provide in-service to teaching staff, we are available to educators to help provide a parent point of view for special education plans, IEP questions, school policies, and district presentations, we can assist districts in establishing parent support or advisory groups, we can provide/find speakers for parents and staff meetings, we have a library of resources available to lend to parents and educators, we are available to provide referrals to other agencies or resources, we are able to provide information on upcoming conferences and workshops, we also try to help parents find financial resources to attend conferences and in-services.

  • Racine Unified School District The majority of Racine County students in grades K-12 are served by the Unified School District, with an enrollment of 22,100 in 32 schools. The District achieves above national test score averages on standardized tests and on both SAT and ACT tests, with significantly higher scores in math. Over 70 percent of the high school graduates indicate that they attend a post-secondary institution. College bound students may enroll in advanced placement or International Baccalaureate courses. Remedial education and programs for the gifted and talented are offered in K-12. The District maintains a strong, continuing relationship with the business community through the Racine Area Manufacturers and Commerce Education Committee.     Burlington Area School District offers a comprehensive program from kindergarten through grade 12 serving 3,500 students. Union Grove High School enrolls 620 students working in office occupations, food service, health services and child development. Waterford Union High School enrolls approximately 900 students. The meeting was called to order at 8:30 AM by Chair Karen Lawlor. Each member introduced themselves to the Committee. John Hamilton is the new representative from Instructional Services.
Approval of Minutes
Mary Peters found several errors in the minutes. The date of the meeting was corrected to be September 27, 2000. On the last page, last paragraph the word "obtain" was added to the third to the last sentence. It now reads: "The group also asked if it is possible to obtain the minutes from the Human Resource meeting, which covered their discussion of a white paper to abolish certification." A motion was made by William Barribeau and seconded by Mark Kearns to approve the minutes as corrected September 27, 2000 meeting. Minutes approved.

    For Physical Education Majors Professional Education Option
    The School of HPERA has approved the following policies in response to the mandated Enrollment Caps in the Professional Education Program.
    • Since our numbers are limited to only a certain number of slots per acadmic year (20), applicants will be evaluated on the submitted documents.
    • Applications to the Professional Education Program are due September 22 and February 22 for initial screening. Physical Education applicants must have an overall GPA (includes all institutions attended) of 2.75 and a major GPA (includes Bio 285) of 2.75 and must meet the School of Education requirements for admission, as stated in the present catalog (subject to change), to be considered by the School of HESA. (No conditionals will be considered)
    • Applicants must submit the following documents to the Director of Physical Education by the School of Education deadline:
    • Resume (include anticipated date of student teaching)
    • Statement of career goals and objectives
