Women's Studies Collection
Women's Studies cuts across all subjects in its consideration of women and gender and draws upon a variety of sources and methodologies. The literature and bibliography in the field of women's studies is, therefore, massive and growing, especially retrospectively, every day. Because the literature is both diverse (covering a wide variety of topics), and diffuse as well (scattered all over the library), it becomes quite a challenge to conduct in-depth research. Fortunately, many excellent indexes and abstracts exist to guide the researcher through this maze of information. Lockwood has, in addition to its book collection, which is accessible via the UB Libraries Catalog , an excellent collection of journals/periodicals. The Library attempts to concentrate on items dealing with feminist theory and methods, the social analysis of women, women of color, and feminist scholarship (such as bias in traditional scholarship). Straightforward and/or mainstream works in art, business, literature, law, education, management, psychology, history, philosophy, and communication, are considered the domain of other collections in Lockwood Library, and one should consult the home pages of those specific areas for further information. The Women's Studies collection is greatly enhanced by numerous microform collections such as the History of Women Periodicals on Women and Women's Rights , the Schlesinger Vertical File Library , and the Supplementary Set of HERSTORY

I. Policy Statement The goal of the University of Kansas Libraries is to provide equitable access to information to all faculty, staff and students who request it. For those with disabilities, the library staff will make good faith efforts to accommodate reasonable requests for assistance in obtaining and using library resources and materials. The Library Bill of Rights and the Americans with Disabilities Act provide the philosophical and legal support for this goal. The Bill of Rights notes that "books and other library resources should be provided…for all people of the community the library serves…" (article 1); that "a person’s right to use a library should not be denied or abridged…" (article 5); and that "all people of the community includes individuals with physical or mental impairments…" ("Policy on Access to the Use of Libraries and Information by Individuals with Physical or Mental Impairment," adopted 1988 ( Intellectual Freedom Manual , American Library Association, 4 th ed., 1992, pp. 3, 141-142.) The Americans with Disabilities Act further strengthens the obligation to provide "qualified individuals with disabilities with aid, benefits or services that are as effective as those provided to others."

Introduction
It is not necessary to point out to the RLG East Asian community the extreme usefulness, even indispensability, of the RLG SHARES program. Without it, our ability to serve our clientele would certainly be much less; with it, we have access to a virtual library many times greater than any individual one. However, the actual RLG East Asian community is also much more than simply a database available to us all; it is also the combined knowledge, dedication, and experience of a diverse and very talented group of curators, bibliographers, selectors, reference librarians and catalogers with intimate knowledge of their collections and a wide array of specialities. Only some of that knowledge and expertise is directly reflected or reflectable in the RLIN database. It was our belief that it might be beneficial to all of us to make more widely known this larger, more intangible storage of knowledge. For exactly such a purpose we have prepared this short guide as a very brief overview of our combined knowledge, present and past. It lists in a more or less logical format the answers we received to the following question:
