Welcome to EWC
EWC President, Dr. Jack Bottenfield
I came to Eastern Wyoming College as President of the College on July 1, 1994. The key factor in my coming to Eastern was the people of the College. Their friendliness, competence, and interest in each other, in the institution, and in the students of EWC is readily apparent. In fact, our competitors quite often refer to EWC as the friendliest campus in the state! Eastern has a well-qualified, competent and dedicated faculty and staff who are interested in students and in helping students succeed. The administration and the board want to provide the best possible learning environment for the students of EWC. I firmly believe that if you choose EWC as the institution in which you achieve your educational goals, you will be very pleased not only now but also in the years to come.
Welcome to the EWC Web Page! Eastern Wyoming College provides outstanding learning opportunities in a small, personalized and supportive educational environment. Our faculty are committed to facilitating learning, and are recognized throughout the state as leaders in their fields. In addition to the strong educational preparation offered at EWC, students also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of personal development opportunities. Whether focused on university transfer classes, sports such as volleyball or basketball, clubs such as rodeo or veterinary technology, or technical training such as welding or agriculture, EWC has much to offer. For more information on the opportunities at Eastern Wyoming College, please contact us.

Despite heavy lobbying from education associations and leaders across the state, the North Carolina State Board of Education voted not to grant New Connections Academy, a virtual charter school, one of the final three charters remaining under the state's current charter law. Citing policy, legal, financial, and educational reasons for postponing the approval of a virtual charter, the Board instead charged the education department to study the issue and make recommendations to the Board regarding policies necessary to support a state virtual school. The Board and state superintendent expressed concerns that, if funded, the virtual school would be attractive to home schoolers who are currently not accounted for in the state's coffers for education. At a time when the state is dealing with budget deficits, the Board was reluctant to add a program that might have a significant impact on the state education budget
Virtual charters were also on the agenda in Pennsylvania , where the legislature is considering changes to how these schools are funded. Because virtual charter schools can enroll students from anywhere in the state, some districts have refused to pay students' tuition, arguing that a local board should not be responsible for funding charter schools that the board did not approve. Some legislators called for statewide funding, along with state authority to hold the virtual charters accountable. However, the chairman of the Senate Education Committee said that in a tight budget year, a mix of state and local funding was more likely to gain legislative approval.

This program was a collaborative effort between the Wyoming Geological Survey and a production of University Television, a division of the Outreach School. The program specifically was made for Wyoming Public Television. The initial showing on or about April 6, 2001 was the centerpiece of Wyoming Public Television's fund raising effort. It has been shown periodically since that time and will continue to be shown. The video tape is available to schools, businesses, government and can be provided to the public and is available through all Wyoming County libraries. In addition to airing on Wyoming Public Television, parts of the video have been used in a KTWO three-part series on earthquakes, resulting in many inquiries coming to the Wyoming State Geological Survey. It is and will be used as educational outreach for a number of years to come.

History
On November 26, 1965 Governor Clifford Hansen issued a proclamation creating the Governor’s Commission on the Status of Women, whereupon Wyoming became the 45th state to have such a commission. He asked that its work be focused on: political and legal rights, employment procedures, home and community, and educational opportunities for Wyoming women. A study was conducted within the four areas of responsibility and was presented to the Governor in December 1966. The report “Wyoming Women”, recommended that the Commission be a permanent and continuing entity and that appropriations be requested from the State.
The 1969 Legislature passed a bill creating the Wyoming Commission for the Status of Women. It provided that the Governor appoint 11 women to form the Commission; one from each of the seven judicial districts and four women to be a members-at large. No more than six members were to be from the same political party. No general funds were appropriated for the Commission to carry on its work, but the bill provided that gifts and donations could be accepted.
In 1971, the Legislature approved a request for expanded membership to include a member from each county, and four at-large positions, bringing the total to 27. Again no general funds were allocated to the Commission. In 1973 the Legislature granted a general fund appropriation for the Commission. In 1977 the Legislature changed the name to the Wyoming Commission for Women.
