The children's and young adult books are shelved according to Library of Congress call numbers in a separate collection on the ninth floor of the library at the far end of the stacks to the left of the stairwell exit. The location "Juv Coll" above or beside the call number indicates books shelved in the Juvenile Collection.
Secondary Source Materials
Secondary source materials written about children's and young adult literature are found in books and articles addressed to teachers, students, librarians, and parents. These materials can be located by using KentLINK and OhioLINK , periodical indexes, and other bibliographic sources listed in this guide.
KentLINK
The library's online catalog, KentLINK , enables users to locate materials by author, title, word and subject. Try a word search for poetry and short story titles that might be in collected works. Examples are:

Library Research in Children's Literature
Introduction Author Info Books Internet Resources
Introduction
This guide is designed to assist persons conducting research in the field of Children's Literature and Young Adult Literature. The field is complicated by ragged boundaries and enormous scope. This guide gives the researcher tools and time saving information. This information presents basic, classic sources or items which illustrate the scope of the Library collection. Remember to make use of reference librarians who are available to answer questions, suggest strategies or recommend additional sources. Children's and Young Adult Literature resources focus more heavily on the author or genre than on a specific book title. While information can be found for some specific book titles, it is more likely that information about specific book titles will be found embedded in an article or book which either discusses the author's works or a particular genre of books.

Chris Crutcher - A shining light in young adult literature, Chris Crutcher has produced eight books in little more than a decade, all the while working fulltime as a counselor in a community mental health center and pursuing a passion for sports. In novels such as Running Loose, Chinese Handcuffs, and Ironman and in the collection Athletic Shorts: Six Short Stories, Crutcher depicts teenagers who, in confronting difficult moral questions, learn about responsibility, courage, love, friendship, and commitment. Acclaimed for their authenticity, integrity, and humor, all of Crutcher's books for young people have been designated an ALA Best Book for Young Adults; in addition, for his significant contribution to young adult literature Crutcher has received an ALAN Award from the National Council of Teachers of English.
