From The New York Public Library, this list is a great find for people looking for great picture books to share with young readers. Classics like "Blueberries for Sal", "Bread and Jam for Frances" and "The Carrot Seed" are here, as well as books by current popular authors like Judith Viorst and William Steig. Aesop´s Fables.
This online collection of Aesop's Fables includes over 655 fables, indexed in table format, with morals listed. There are also 127 Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen with 209 Grimm's Fairy Tales coming soon. Audio narrations and pictures of some of the fables are included. In a 1998 NCTE publication, United In Diversity: Using Young Adult Multicultural Literature In The Classroom (Jean Brown and Elaine Stephens, editors) Ted Hipple of the University of Tennessee professed to being a "pooper" about multicultural literature. In his chapter, "Puzzlements from a Pooper; on Much Confusion about 'Multicultural'," Hipple explained that he was confused about what makes a novel multicultural. Does multicultural literature include all cultures, or is it predominately a movement to include racial and ethnic minorities in the literary canon? He is not alone in his questioning, especially among those teaching young adult literature at the university level. According to research published in The ALAN Review by Melissa Comer ( ), professors teaching young adult literature (YAL) believe that multicultural literature is important. In her dissertation

For more information about searching MadCat, please read the user guide on searching for books To search for children's fiction, perform a Guided Keyword search, using the phrase Juvenile Fiction in the Subject (SKEY) field. Combine this phrase with other search terms to narrow your search. For example, using a Guided Keyword search, enter "friends" on the first search line. The Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Adult Literature is given to the fantasy novel, multi-volume, or single-author story collection for adults published during 2002 that best exemplifies "the spirit of the Inklings". Reissues (such as paperback editions) are eligible if no earlier edition was a finalist. Books from a series are eligible if they stand on their own; otherwise, the series is eligible the year its final volume appears. Last year's winner was The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold.
