    Museum of Jurassic Technology
is a tongue firmly in cheek exhibit of biological specimens, curiosities, writings and art from the Lower Jurassic (period? region?) ... or maybe it's on the level. You be the judge. The site lets you examine a few exhibits, such as the Cameroon Stink Ant and a horn purportedly removed from the head of a 17th century woman. Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) provides one of the nation's finest collections of post-1940 art and offers over 20 special exhibits a year. Museum of Television and Radio - this recently opened museum fills a long open hole in LA's museum landscape. The western sister of a branch in New York, it offers many exhibitions, screenings, listenings, and lectures. Autry Museum of Western Heritage provides one of the world's largest collections devoted to Western History and Art (despite its Hollywood namesake). Not just a cowboy museum ... the collection focuses on eight communities ... African, Asian, Mexican, Mormon, Canadian, European and of course Native American. In addition to Remingtons and Russells, you'll find folk art, artifacts, costumes and props from the Western cinema and a Children's Discovery Gallery.

    http://www.zoocheck.com/programs/zoocheck/roadside/
Roadside Zoos and Menageries Most often, the word zoo conjures of images of large zoological institutions such the Metropolitan Toronto Zoo, the National Zoo in Washington, DC or the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park in California. These zoos, and a handful of other facilities like them, have created a belief that the majority of zoos have become high tech reservoirs of animal science and technology geared towards the preservation of endangered species and conservation education. The public has been led to believe that zoos are modern arks - an important lifeline for vanishing species threatened with extinction. But public perception doesn’t always reflect reality. Roadside Zoos: A Canadian Plague Throughout Canada, hundreds of small zoos, roadside menageries and wildlife displays exhibit wild animals to the public. Sometimes these displays are little more than a few caged animals meant to attract customers to a gift store or garden centre, while others are more like traditional zoos. Commonly referred to as "roadside zoos", these displays comprise more than 90% of all wildlife exhibits in Canada. Estimates place their number at more than 300. Miserable Living Conditions Often started by well-meaning but ill-informed people, most roadside zoos fall far short of providing even the basic necessities of life to the animals in their collections. Barren, poorly designed cages that are so small, they provide almost no opportunity for natural movement or exercise; improper floor surfaces; lack of shelter and privacy; poor quality feed; filthy water containers; cages littered with feces, candy wrappers, rotting food and other garbage; and lack of appropriate veterinary care are common.

For a city of 3.5 million Berlin has a remarkable number of green spaces and public parks.
Sweeping from the Brandenburg Gate in the east to the Zoological Garden in the west, Tiergarten, the old hunting grounds of the Prussian royalty, is an enormous landscaped park, with canals to boat along, lawns to sunbath on, and statue-lined avenues to stroll down.
Most suburbs have their own park each with a different character. Kreuzberg's Viktoria Park has a romantic waterfall tumbling down from a monument crowned hill with a good view over the city.
Further east the Hasenheide is filled with the smell of smoke drifting from the barbecues, as the Turkish residents celebrate the arrival of spring by picnicking en famille. Treptower Park houses the dramatic Soviet War Memorial - it runs along the river Spree, and from there you can take boat trips through or right round the city by canal and river.

    Circle of Feelings
E arly relations between the United States and India are yet to be fully assessed, particularly in their triangular connections with France in the aftermath of the Treaty of Versailles (1783). The result of this treaty was the exit from the British Empire of a new world power in North America. But in this same period, in Asia, almost every Indian state quickly passed under British hegemony between 1792 and 1818. With the lone exceptions of Punjab and Sindh, the map of the subcontinent was increasingly “turning red,” the color of British territories. Josiah Harlan was born in Newlin, Chester County, Pennsylvania, in 1799, the year Maharaja Ranjit Singh captured Lahore and founded the Sikh kingdom of Punjab. His eldest brother, Richard, was a physician, and young Josiah seems to have dabbled in medicine and surgery before he sailed on a merchant ship to Canton. Returning to America, he sailed out again—to Calcutta where the Bengal army, being short of surgeons during the Burmese War, enrolled him in July 1824. He served in Rangoon in 1825, then in Karnal with a regiment of Native infantry. He was on leave in Ludhiana in 1826 when he was informed that an order had been issued for the dismissal of temporary surgeons from the British army.
