I had not interviewed many film stars at the time, except to discuss serious cinema with them. Otherwise, most interviews I had done were easy, comfortable chats with the brains in the corporate sector or creative people who discussed their passion -work. I hate not having concise directions to a place where I have an appointment, and I was unfamiliar with the residential areas of Mumbai. So I asked Bachchan for directions to his residence - he gave me the landmark of a temple. Reaching Juhu, I was unable to trace the temple, despite asking several people. F inally, I explained to the three-wheeler driver that Amitabh Bachchan lives opposite the temple. He looked at me as though I must have lost it, explaining that I should have given Bachchan's house as the landmark if I wanted to go to the temple. Now he took me straight to the temple, while pointing out the house where Bachchan lives. Switching off his engine, he waited for me to enter the temple. He had already counted his return fare - after all, how long does anyone spend in a temple ? I was dropped off at the temple gate. I hesitated crossing the road to Bachchan's house with the driver watching me in amusement, assuming I had forgotten at which god's door I had wanted to offer worship. At that time, crowds still jostled with each other outside Bachchan's house to pay obeisance hoping for a glimpse of the star. I marched across the road. I did not want to be late for my appointment. I am a stickler for punctuality, and Bachchan's own professionalism and distaste for tardiness was legendary. He was also not fond of the media. Besides I knew he was a tough nut to crack. While some people introspect with ease, others have worn their armour so long, they will never meet anyone unarmed.

He's joking around, smiling at everybody and is in a good mood. And so the few members of the press feel naturally blessed, when the Big B smilingly says, “Pehle press puja, phir pet puja,” when his Man Friday tells him to have his food when the unit breaks for lunch. At the onset of the interview, he says, half-jokingly, “Please do not ask me about my character in this film.” But he goes on to add that he plays Dr. Singh, an elderly doctor in the film. “I am trying to raise funds for a hospital, my dream hospital. My son, who's also a doctor, played by Anil Kapoor, shares my dream but is in a dilemma when around interval-time, I die in the film. His life gets a bit complicated with the two ladies – Preity Zinta and Gracy Singh – involved in his life. I can't be revealing much about the film, as that would give the story away. I'd rather the director tell you more about it,” he says, his booming voice cutting through the silence of the vacant studio floor. This is the first time Bachchan is working with a woman director and he's only happy about it. “But I can't see her. Amitabh Bachchan is an Indian actor born on October 11 in Allahabad , India. The eldest son of Harivanshrai Bachchan , a well known contemporary poet, and Teji Bachchan , he was brought up in the rich tradition of the arts. He did his schooling at Sherwood College in Nainital and went on to Delhi University to earn an arts degree. His first film was called Saat Hindusthani and he has since made over a hundred films in a career that included such box office successes as Zanjeer Deewar Sholay and Amar Akbar Anthony . Amitabh Bachchan is most famous for introducing into Hindi cinema, the character of the "angry young man" in stark contrast to the more romantic characters being played by his contemporaries. Amitabh Bachchan retired from the film industry to briefly enter politics by winning a seat in parliament from his hometown of Allahabad. However, his political career was short lived.
