Stephen T. Collins (c1822) and Margaret Smith of Marion Co, SC
Commentary Children Researcher List Register Report ... Home I (Marty Grant) don't know how I'm related to Stephen T. Collins. I am sure he is somehow related to my ancestor Jonah Collins (c1774) Stephen T. Collins was born 22 Feb 1822 (per tombstone) in Marion Dist, SC. I don't know what his "T" middle initial stands for. According to W.W. Sellers, Stephen T. Collins was a son of John Collins, who was a grandson of Thomas Collins. He was mistaken about John being a grandson, he was actually Thomas's son. If Sellers is correct, (and he seems to be), then Stephen is a son of John Collins (c1798) and Chloe - . I've not seen any direct evidence proving that Stephen was John's son, but he does fit, and in this case I trust that Sellers was right. Here is what Sellers wrote about Stephen T. Collins (page 512-513) (anything in brackets [...] was added by me): COLLINS. "John Collins, the grandson [son] of old Thomas, was the father of the late Sheriff Robert Collins, and of his brothers, the late Stephen T. Collins and Samuel Collins; John may have had other sons and, perhaps, daughters, not known to the writer. Don't know who Samuel Collins married; or anything of the children (if he had any ) of Solomon Collins. ... ... Stephen T. Collins, brother of Sheriff Collins (older), married Miss Margaret Smith, daughter of Hugh Godbold Smith; he raised a family, how many and of what sex is not known; he had a son, Hugh Collins, living on the road to Mullins just above Gapway Church, who seems to be doing well, and has a family; he also had a daughter, who married E. B. Owens, already noticed among the Owens family. Stephen T. Collins may have had other children but they are not known to the writer; he was deputy for his brother Robert while Sheriff, and was very efficient; he died a few years ago."

Thomas L. Collins (c1804) and Beady - of Marion Co, SC
Commentary Children Researcher List Register Report ... Home I (Marty Grant) don't know how I'm related to Thomas L. Collins. I am sure he is somehow related to my ancestor Jonah Collins (c1774) Thomas L. Collins was born ca 1803/04 (per 1850 census) in Marion Dist, SC. I don't know what the "L" middle initial was for. Thomas is a proven son of Thomas Collins (1765/70) as named in the estate records of Thomas Collins. W.W. Sellers mentioned Thomas (Jr) in his History of Marion County, South Carolina , 1902, However, he apparently mixed up father and son when referring to Thomas Jr's children. Here is what Sellers wrote about him (page 512-513) (anything in brackets [...] was added by me): ... He [Thomas] had a son named Thomas (and perhaps others), who was the father of John, Solomon and Samuel, and probably four daughters. Solomon and John married sisters-the sisters of old Captain John Rogers, of the "Fork" section; and their father Thomas Collins Jr, married, for a second or third wife, another sister; thus it appears that the father's wife and the wives of his two sons, Solomon and John, were sisters-and if they all had offspring by the respective marriages, it would be difficult to tell what relation the children would be to each other. John Collins, the grand-son of old Thomas, was the father of the late Sheriff Robert Collins, and of his brothers, the late Stephen T. Collins and Samuel Collins; John may have had other sons and, perhaps, daughters, not known to the writer.

Main research area: The immune modulation of enteric nerve and muscle function. Specific topics: Inflammation of the intestine results in a widespread disturbance of function, including involvement of nerves (pain) and muscle (stricture formation and diarrhea). Research addresses mechanisms underlying the changes in these tissues during experimental inflammation. Studies include the roles of specific cells, such as lymphocytes, and cytokines on nerve and muscle function in vitro, with measurements of changes in physiology and biochemistry of these cell types. Participation of muscle and nerves in the inflammatory process via activation of lymphocytes through antigen presentation, adhesion molecule expression and cytokine production. The role of stress in the inflammatory process. These studies are pertinent to the understanding of inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Methods used include: RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, cell culture and co-culture, physiological studies on muscle (contraction) and nerves (neurotransmitter release) and second messenger systems.

Stephen Collins: Pastoring the Flock
Finally prime time TV is trying once more for quality family-oriented programming. We have seen the trend over the last couple of years with such family-friendly dramas as "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman," "Second Noah," and most recently by "Touched by an Angel." Just two years ago, the producers of such glossy night time dramas as "Beverly Hills 90210" and "Melrose Place" birthed a new vision a value-oriented, object lesson of a show called "7th Heaven." Stephen Collins, who plays minister and father to five Eric Camden, shares his faith in God and views on the show that is gaining a loyal though still-small audience. "Seventh Heaven" a WB show, which airs Mondays from 8 to 9 p.m. ET, was created by writer/ executive producer Brenda Hampton ("Mad About You") with the prolific executive producer team of Aaron Spelling and E. Duke Vincent. Collins shares the limelight with Catherine Hicks (Annie), Barry Watson (Matt), Jessica Biel (Mary), Beverly Mitchell (Lucy), David Gallagher (Simon), and Mackenzie Rosman (Ruthie). Emmy nominated Collins is known for his roles as Aaron Paradis in First Wives Club (1996), as Sela Ward's love interest in "Sisters," and has starred in 8 TV miniseries including "Scarlett" in the role of Ashley Wilkes.

Stephen Collins Foster
Biographical Sketch
Stephen Collins Foster, the ninth of William B. and Eliza T. Foster's ten children (plus a son fathered by William before the marriage and later raised as their oldest child), was born July 4, 1826, in a white cottage high on the hillside above the Allegheny River in Lawrenceville , east of Pittsburgh. The tenth child died as an infant, leaving Stephen as the "baby" of the family to be indulged by older brothers and sisters. Foster's life has become part of American legend . One thread of the tale is that he detested school and so was poorly educated. In truth, as a young boy Stephen evinced more interest in music than in other subjects. But as the child of a middle-class family in an era before tax-supported public education, he variously was privately tutored, then schooled at private academies in Pittsburgh and in north-central Pennsylvania. He expressed a distaste for rote learning and recitation, but was an avid reader and eventually became a literate, well-educated person by the standards of his day.

Stephen Collins, starring as dashing flyer Jake Cutter in TALES OF THE GOLD MONKEY , has a varied background of leading and character roles amassed during his 13 years in theatre, films and television.
The character of a young American struggling to operate a small airline in a remote corner of the world is one that Stephen Collins may have been destined to play. At the time of his birth his father was an executive with Panagra Airlines, a small American carrier operating out of Lima, Peru. Stephen was born in Des Moines, Iowa, where his parents, Cyrus and Madeline Collins, were visiting his mother's family. He lived in Peru until age six months, when his family, which includes two older brothers, moved to Hastings-on-Hudson, a small town north of New York City.
Steve's first passion was baseball. A reticence to appear before crowds kept him on the sidelines during his Little League years, but in tenth grade he found the courage to aim for the junior varsity. He made the team. He harbored a secret desire to act as well, but the same shyness kept him off the stage. The role of Stephen Collins Foster in a grade school production was his only acting experience until his junior year in high school when he cleverly wrangled a private audition for a production of "OUR TOWN". He won the role of Emily's father, Mr. Webb, then went on to play the lead in his senior year.
At the same time, Stephen's first venture into music laid to rest any vestiges of audience phobia. Although he had never played an instrument, a friend asked Steve to help form a rock 'n' roll band. He learned to play bass guitar by rote and was hooked. Music carried Stephen into his first years at Amherst College in Massachusetts, where he played in bands with such evocative names as

An Address by John Tasker Howard. Made at the Annual Stephen Foster Memorial Program in Carnegie Music Hall on 13 January 1934 from The Pittsburgh Record , March 1934. T his meeting commemorates a sad occasion, a tragic eventthe passing, seventy years ago, of one who left us a legacy of song and melody that may never be forgotten. Stephen Foster was a man who had but a few pennies to leave in this world, but those things he had created added to the spiritual riches of the world a heritage far more precious than the millions of many an industrial or financial giant. To America Foster has meant much. His songs are so native in their character that there need be no hesitation in stating that his was the most national expression that any of our composers has yet achieved. Born and raised here in Pittsburgh, he was little affected by the foreign music that enslaved those who lived on the seaboard. The voices Stephen heard were those of the minstrel shows, the singing and dancing of negroes on the wharves of the Ohio River, and the sentimental songs of midcentury that were carried through the country by the 'singing families' in concert and that were sung by demure young ladies who played the accompaniments on
