May 25, 2002 ONE STRIKE FROM A BUS RIDE ! With one out in the ninth, Matt Pali singled to left center. Jeremiah Creech pinch ran and represented the tying run at first base against JU. Robbie Orton ripped a line drive to left center that looked to be in the gap for extra bases. But Chad Oliva raced to his left and made a diving catch. How many times lately have we seen this happen to us? Freshman Derek Hutton stood in for his biggest college at bat. He drew a walk. The winning run was on base as we fought to stay alive in the tournament, and quite possibly, the season. Walking to the plate was senior shortstop Bobby Spano . As he stepped into the box, I thought back to last year when he started to switch hit against this same JU team. I wondered how he felt stepping in for what could be his last at bat in college. The count was - 2 before you could blink. One more strike. One strike and JU is celebrating the second straight year sending us home. One more strike and I have to think of something to say to my kids. One more strike and we sit nervously watching ESPN on Monday, praying we see our name go up as a regional team. One more strike and we are on a bus back to Boca!

Diamond Diary by Kevin Cooney
April 15, 2002 Did you do your taxes? I used to live in fear of this day, but my wife has cured me of my traditional procrastination in this area. We survived a scary weekend. Any time that coaches make decisions, it's a scary weekend. Skipping Pillsbury Friday night worked out fine as Danny Core pitched his best game of the season. He was removed with two out and one man on in the eigth inning. Campbell's best hitter was at the plate, so I opted to bring in Tim McNab for an early start on a save. Tim got Carter to bounce back to the mound on his second pitch. If Danny had gone 1 2 3 in the eighth, I planned to let him go out for the ninth and get a complete game. But with Carter representing the tying run, I would have second guessed myself foreverer, should Danny have stayed in and not gotten the job done. If you have a good closer, you should use him. Matt Pali stayed hot as he gave us a second run after we stole one from them. Matt hit a laser over the right field fence, as his parents were in the air somewhere enroute to come see him play on Saturday. He didn't disappoint them Saturday, as he again hit a big home run to help us win a squeaker in the first game.

Robert Forster is the gem in this heartfelt tale of an aging traveling salesman trying to teach a troublesome young guy the ropes of selling jewelry on the road. Donnie Wahlberg co-stars for writer-director Daniel M. Cohen. Official Web Site By JACK GARNER
Gannett News Service Veteran actor Robert Forster is taking a circuitous route to greatness, but he's getting there just the same. Forster has had rare moments of mainstream movie celebrity such as his Oscar-nominated turn in "Jackie Brown." But most of his memorable later work has been in small, independent films by directors who are mighty lucky to have him. "Lakeboat" is one recent example. Now Daniel M. Cohen's "Diamond Men" is the case. Forster plays Eddie Miller, a traveling salesman near the end of his career. For decades, he has driven the byways of central Pennsylvania, stopping at jewelry stores from Lewisburg to Harrisburg and beyond, to sell jewelry, swap stories with his customers and play an occasional hand of poker. After a heart attack, Eddie's company says he can't be insured and that's important because he routinely carries $1 million in diamonds.

Karten Dan Cohen opens his movie on Robert Forster, who performs in the role of diamond salesman Eddie Miller, looking dazzling in a thousand-dollar suit as he confidently heads to his capacious car only to suffer a heart attack, after which he is Willie-Lomaned by his much younger boss presumably because he is no longer insurable. Asked to mentor Bobby Walker (Donnie Wahlberg), the arrogant young man who is to take his place, who has personality to burn but no special aptitude for the job, Eddie is put off by Bobby's youth culture (rock music, egotistical attitude, undiplomatic statements) while for his part Bobby has little use for the older man's inflexibility. During their long drives to clients in the Harrisburg, PA area, they get to know each other, become buddies, and while exchanging information about women and sharing real experience with them in bars, restaurants and other places, each casts a marked change on the other's life.

Diamond Men Allows Robert Forster to Strut His Stuff
by Ted Murphy
Rating: 3½ stars (out of 5)
© 2001 Panorama Entertainment
In the last decade or so, as movie studios have become another cog in a global conglomerate's machinery, the emphasis has been on the "event" film, the kind of motion picture that earns huge amounts in its opening weekend and fades just as quickly, relegated to the video shelves within six months. Independent filmmakers and some cable networks have tried to fill the void left by these "blockbusters," turning out small, character-driven works. One such example and a pretty good one at that is Diamond Men , which focuses on an aging traveling salesman and the rookie he must train to replace him. Eschewing pyrotechnic camerawork, writer-director Daniel M. Cohen opts instead to concentrate on human relationships, specifically the odd coupling of veteran and newcomer, resulting in a satisfying portrait of a working-class man. Actor Robert Forster is nothing short of spectacular in the role of Edward Miller. Miller is an accomplished salesman who knows his customers and his territory well. He's the kind of0 vanishing breed of man who stayed with one company all his life and allowed his job to define who he is. As the film opens, Miller, a widower, suffers a heart attack. Despite recovering, he finds he is being phased out by the company's new owners; he's now an insurance risk. Being laid off is no fun for anyone, but Miller suffers the indignity of being asked to mentor his eventual replacement, the brash Bobby Walker (Donnie Wahlberg), who previously excelled at selling snacks for vending machines.

Biography
Bobby Bruce is an electrifying performer who has spent the last seven years rocking thousands of screaming fans throughout North America, Australia and South East Asia with his amazing tribute to Neil Diamond.
Bobby was raised in Port Coquitlam, a suburb of Vancouver. A child model and actor, Bobby began his acting career at ten, appearing in several local and national television commercials. Bobby's first foray into live theatre was as Theo in Pippin at the Vancouver Arts Club. An eager but untrained singer, Bobby studied classical voice with the legendary Russian voice master Nikolai Kolesnikov for ten years before taking students himself. Besides teaching voice, musical theatre classes, producing original work for the Fringe Festival and performing in mime and variety shows, Bobby also found the time to appear in productions around town. As a young adult, Bobby appeared as Arab in Westside Story, the Emcee in Cabaret, and the Dame in Dick Whittington and Wonder Cat. In the summers from 1989 through 1992 you could find Bobby performing in over 500 shows per season at the Pacific National Exhibition's (PNE) Playland in their all singing, all dancing; country, rock and funk shows. Unable to rest, this energetic performer spent his evenings performing at the hilarious Maz'n'Me's Dinner Theatre Restaurant. In 1991, he and wife, Leanne, opened their own Musical Comedy Restaurant - Crackers. By 1993, Bobby had moved to the big city - Toronto.
