DotComGuy clobber
After spending an entire year inside a Dallas apartment living via the Internet, DotComGuy is now back in the outside world but it's not too late to buy some official merchandise. Mitch Maddox legally changed his name to DotComGuy and spent 366 days indoors purchasing everything he needed online while cameras broadcast his life around-the-clock. The 26-year-old now plans to marry a woman he met in his own chat room. Show your support for this 21st century citizen by getting some DotComGuy gear in your wardrobe - the T-shirts are $15.99 and sweatshirts cost $24.99. Search: News Only Whole site WideMedia Ltd.

DOTCOMGUY - IT'S A SIMPLE MONIKER, just three little words strung together. The revolutionary business plan behind those words is also simple. As the year 2000 dawned, a former UNT student from Dallas would give up his job, legally change his name to DotComGuy and shut himself in a house wired with web cameras to broadcast his every move for the year. His goal: to prove it is possible to live solely off the Internet. In other words, he would become an e-commerce mascot. He would be the person who makes it OK to buy things other than books and CDs online. As 2000 begins its march to December, DCG finds himself sitting atop his own e-commerce empire. He knows his idea was simple. It also has been successful. However, DCG isn’t succeeding alone. He has the help of DotComGuy Inc. — a core group of 15 talented 20-somethings who manage the business.

Living in a Vacuum - The dotcomguy Revolution
There's a man living in Texas, whose name is dot-com guy. That's his legal name.
He's living in a house by himself, in order to prove that you can spend a year surfing the web without learning anything. Actually, he wants to prove that it's possible to live for a year while accomplishing all of life's boring necessities on the web. While he's at it, he also hopes to make as much money as he can marketing himself being a couch potato for an entire year (although he neglects to openly mention that on the website). Folks, that is what I call an amazing scam.

Here's a quote directly from the website
He explained. "The Idea" had bounced around his head for nearly a year. DotComGuy wanted to show the world that someone could live entirely through e-commerce. He was willing to prove it by moving into an empty house - with only a computer and the clothes on his back - and not leave for a year.

VIEWING TIPS Updated: Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000 at 00:43 CST Survival of the savviest DotComGuy, company look forward to life after exile By Jeff Prince Star-Telegram Dallas bureau DALLAS DotComGuy Inc. has not attracted the mass viewership of CBS' voyeur television show Survivor. But the Dallas-based Web site is alive and well. DotComGuy Inc., the company, has maintained sponsors and kept most of its original staff. DotComGuy remains inside a Dallas apartment, anticipating his Dec. 31 release. The Web site invites people into the virtual world of DotComGuy, a man holed up in an apartment since Jan. 1. Mitch Maddox, 27, legally changed his name, and his Texas driver's license now reads: "DotComGuy, None None." Enter the free Web site and watch him sit. See him sleep. Listen to his entertainer friends. Behold his dog chase a sock. All this can be watched seven days a week on www.dotcomguy.com on streaming video. "I'm the pet rock of the year 2000," DotComGuy said. "That's cool with me."

NEWS ANALYSIS
Why Would Anybody Listen to a Guy Named DotComGuy? Because he's living full-time on the Web. And his experiences, observations, and complaints are useful to e-commerce wannabes Printer-Friendly Version E-Mail This Story Find More Stories Like This Keeping the Edge on Technology's Sword Bombarded by War on TV Struck by a Foe Called Overconfidence Chest-Thumping Time for Saddam ... More Headlines It might still seem like an elaborate Internet joke, but DotComGuy is serious, and he's starting to get others to take him seriously. He used to be known as Mitch Maddox, until the 26-year old legally changed his name to DotComGuy, shut himself up in his house on Jan. 1, and vowed to not come out for a year. Never heard of him? He's the guy who buys all his clothes, furniture, food, electronics, videos, CDs, and pet food for a beagle named DotComDog, of course on the Internet. If it sounded ridiculous when the scheme was announced, it's not sounding so silly now to some retailers and industry analysts. Online grocer Peopod Inc. and soon-to-be clothing retailer Fossil have become official sponsors of his effort, adding their names to established company sponsors that include United Parcel Service and 3Com. And U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray featured DotComGuy at an investor conference in June. DotComGuy's angle is that he has built some solid e-tailing expertise after being shut up in his Dallas apartment for seven months, buying everything he needs on the Net. He has plenty of firsthand experience for retailing giants trying to make a go of it on the Net. For instance, DotComGuy spent more than two hours on the Walt Disney Co. site to buy a set of Winnie the Pooh paper plates, cups, and napkins for his nephew's first birthday.

You know what they say…wherever you go, there you are. Well, thanks for stopping by my little corner of the web. My name is Jeff Pasternack and, depending on how you found our respite, you're here for various reasons. Perhaps you heard me lecture at one of the medical societies around the country or maybe you've been reading my monthly column in The Medical Bulletin. You may even have found this site through one of the many search engines in which we're listed. But how you came to be here is less important than why you're here, so let's get right down to it. On these pages you'll find information about the services I provide and the resources at my disposal. Whether your needs are to simply spruce up a logo or launch a comprehensive Internet initiative to make available data scattered across hundreds of servers around the world, I've surrounded myself with the most talented and creative minds I could find. As varied as my clients' needs are, so are their backgrounds. I've consulted with, assembled teams and managed projects for medical office managers, physicians, medical society executives, government-sponsored initiatives and plain old corporate America. Depending on your needs, I may be able to answer your questions directly. However, I don't pretend to know it all and certainly can't do everything. What I can do, however, is help you find the professionals capable of handling all of your database, graphic design, networking and data security needs. If nothing else, you have my pledge to help you in whatever way I can.
