Media Coverage of the Parakeets The Facts On Friday, October 31 (Halloween) Commonwealth Edison , Chicago's local Electric Company, removed the single largest monk parakeet nest in Hyde Park from one of their utility poles. The nest measured ten feet across and was home to more than 20 parakeets. On Wednesday, November 5 several more nests were removed, leaving even more of the birds homeless, perhaps as many as 50 or 60. All of these nests were removed from an alley that runs parallel to 54th street between Woodlawn and Kimbark Aves., behind the St. Thomas Aquinas school. For exact locations, check this map of nesting sites in Hyde Park All of these nests were built on utility poles, and posed a fire hazard, according to ComED. On the night of June 23, one of the nests caused a transformer to overheat, setting a utility pole ablaze and damaging $15,300 worth of electrical equipment. Residents in the area lost power for 12 hours, and the parakeets had to build a new nest. They rebuilt on the same pole charred by the fire. On Monday, October 27, a meeting was held with ComED representatives (including their wildlife biologist), Hyde Park alderman Toni Preckwinkle, and citizens living around the alley attending. At this meeting the citizens were informed that the nests would be removed sometime "in the next couple of weeks", according to Tracy Teslow, who attended the meeting.

Former state Rep. Bruce Hyde was reacting to news Friday that Ready had accrued nearly $10,000 in cellular telephone charges since taking office and was charging the state for mileage to events including funerals, holiday activities and legislative breakfasts. “The public places a high degree of faith and trust in their elected officials and expects them to uphold high moral and ethical standards. While it is appropriate for state employees to be compensated for travel and phone bills while performing official state business, it’s totally inappropriate and deceitful to fraudulently bill the state for personal and campaign expenses,” he said at a hastily scheduled news conference Friday to respond to a newspaper article detailing Ready’s expenses. Ready has acknowledged accumulating higher than average phone bill charges, but said she was unaware of the level of cost. IL DOTTOR JECKYLL E MISTER HYDE (Usa - 1941) di Victor Fleming Il dottor Jeckyll, appartenente all'alta borghesia inglese e felicemente fidanzato, sperimenta su di sè un siero capace di separare il bene dal male nelle persone. La sua personalità diventa un concentrato di malvagità capace di tiranneggiare e seviziare una ragazza incontrata per caso. Presto la situazione gli sfugge di mano. Remake sottovalutato della prima versione cinematografica del libro di Stevenson (quella di Mamoulian), si avvale di grandi attori quali Spencer Tracy nella doppia veste del dottor Jeckyll e di mister Hyde, Ingrid Bergman in quella della prostituta, mentre Lana Turner è la fidanzatina. Tracy si adatta molto bene ed è particolarmente impressionante e degno di nota il make-up che gli permette di impersonare il malvagio Hyde: la trasformazione è mostrata solo attraverso l'uso di successive sovrimpressioni sulla pellicola, ma l'effetto spaventoso è assicurato. Sorprende la Bergman, attrice straordinaria ma raramente impiegata in ruoli di "donna perduta": qui offre un campionario di recitazione da applausi, sia quando seduce e sia quando mostra lo smarrimento totale di fronte a Jeckyll/Hyde. E' un film che sorprende: pur essendo del 1941 è ancora attualissimo per la sua carica di erotismo e sadismo. Per il primo aspetto è straordinaria la scena in cui Spencer Tracy, bravo e candido dottorino, si lascia tentare dalla Bergman fino ad un fedifrago bacio. Per quanto riguarda il sadismo, anche se la violenza è solo suggerita l'atmosfera di malvagità e perversione che regna nelle sequenze che si svolgono nell'appartamento della prostituta Ivy (Ingrid Bergman) è a dir poco inquietante.
