The social calls of 45 kHz pipistrelles usually have four components, and are slightly lower in frequency than the social calls of 55 kHz pipistrelles, which usually have three components. When Kate made playbacks of the social calls of 45 kHz bats, the activity of 45 kHz bats in the immediate area dropped significantly. The 55 kHz bats showed no such reduction in activity in response to playbacks of 45 kHz bat social calls, but they did reduce activity in response to playbacks of social calls from 55 kHz bats. In Europe, males defend roosts, which are often in manmade bat houses. Bat houses normally contain a single sexually active male and one to three females. In collaboration with Kirsty Park and John Altringham of the University of Leeds, we showed that these mating groups always contain bats of just one phonic type, suggesting that the phonic types are reproductively isolated. Because reproductive isolation is one of the criteria for species designation, it seemed likely that the phonic types were two distinct species.

He's been on TV in the UK since 1985, but we love him best for presenting kids facts show "How2" When we asked who people wanted us to interview, Gaz scorched in as the People's Favourite, so we got in touch, and talked to him about Carol Vorderman, trampolines and being Welsh. Tell us your favourite joke. (rob) What do you call a Welsh Custard Competition, a Cystadlaeaith! Sadly that joke only works if you speak the language, which suits me fine! Why do you object to being called Gaz Top nowadays? (tomsk) It's not my name, just a nickname I had as a roadie which got carried over to TV for my first 4 years. Those who know me well have always called me Gareth. I am obviously proud of my Welsh roots and the fact that I can speak Welsh, so I figured Gareth Jones was closer to the real me than Gaz Top, the ex-roadie! Why did you give up your music career? Archbishop Tenison's From: Gareth Jones Gareth.Jones@allders.com Hey everybody, just been looking at the Tenison's website and thought it only good and proper to drop a few lines from myself. Well, how things have moved on for me since the wonderful Tenisons. I am now working for Allders Group Marketing Department based in Croydon and things couldn't be going better for me, I am working with a really good bunch of people and still seeing a fair few of the old crowd around and about in Croydon. I've just moved into a new home with Ann-Marie, I am sure all my teachers will remember us (the inseparable ones!!). Oh and by the way Mr Ford, we are still holding hands when we shouldn't be!! I've just had my 21st birthday and AM's is coming up soon - it seems a very long time since I left school. I do miss Tenisons quite alot actually, I was always told that when you leave school you will miss it and I never believed those people but it's true. I am still seeing Luke, Andy Wasef and Tammy around quite abit which is nice - but it was excellent seeing a few messages from Becky Scott and Lloyd Kinsley, a real blast from the past. Anyway, time to sign off and to say a few thank-you's to Mr Cox for being a fantastic teacher and a friend when you needed it, Miss Marchment for being so supportive, Miss Bushell and Mr Abate for putting so much time into my sport.
