The Chucks, as he calls them, are high-tops, to help his weak ankles. "I like the extra support when rounding street corners," he explains. Both times we meet, his ensemble is the same. The first occasion is a photo shoot at Coney Island. He unloads a canvas bag stuffed with vintage T-shirts and asks for the bottle of Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill he requested. Then he dry-humps a mannequin outside the Spookarama, dances with a Brighton Beach local and interrupts an admirer's phone conversation ("Hi, this is Johnny Knoxville," he says, taking the phone. "Your friend iss drunk."). It's right about then that you realize the guy is hardly fighting the typecast. Johnny Knoxville really is a Jackass The formula has proved irresistible to women and men around the country since Jackass , the MTV stunt show Knoxville created with director Spike Jonze and then- Big Brother skate-magazine editor Jeff Tremaine, first aired in October 2000. He's a tough, handsome guy who smiles a lot, giggles like a schoolgirl and doesn't mind if you stare.
