Cineasti classici SERGIO LEONE... e il mito "Il cinema dev'essere spettacolo, è questo che il pubblico vuole. E per me lo spettacolo più bello è quello del mito". "western all'italiana" , meglio conosciuto come "spaghetti-western" , genere sicuramente tra i più imitati. Celebrato per la sua qualità dagli stessi americani (che dell'argomento ne sanno parecchio!) è doveroso sottolineare che lo spaghetti-western, insieme al neorealismo, alla commedia e all'horror all'italiana, fu un filone di rilevanza internazionale! Ma il messaggio cinematografico di Leone, non si limita ad un cinema minore come quello western: ha influenzato centinaia di autori del panorama mondiale, dai colleghi contemporanei fino alle ultimissime leve. Jan Kounen, per il suo feroce "Doberman" ha dichiarato: "Il mio film di riferimento è «Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo» di Sergio Leone, con la sua amoralità paradossale e il suo gusto della beffa". Leone, laureato in giurisprudenza, è figlio di Roberto Roberti, regista-pioniere dell'industria cinematografica italiana ai tempi del muto e di una celebre cantante d'opera. Cresciuto praticamente a Cinecittà, rivela una stupefacente abilità tecnica nel girare per i colossal dei mitici anni cinquanta le scene di battaglia e le sequenze di massa, qualedirettore della seconda unità. Sergio Leone (Roma 1926 - Roma 1989) Sergio Leone è stato l'inventore, oltre che il maggior esponente, del "western all'italiana", meglio conosciuto come "spaghetti-western", genere sicuramente tra i più imitati e celebrato per la sua qualità dagli stessi americani. La prima regia ufficiale è "Il colosso di Rodi" (1960) che rivela un cineasta dal sicuro gusto per lo spettacolo e padronanza tecnica assoluta. Con la cosiddetta "trilogia del dollaro": "Per un pugno di dollari" "Per qualche dollaro in più" (1965) e "Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo" (1966), Leone inventa un nuovo cinema, caratterizzato da sceneggiature violente e intrise di ironia (sangue che sgorga dai corpi delle vittime e soprattutto vittime e assassini inquadrati per la prima volta insieme), montaggio serrato, sequenze con lunghi silenzi carichi di contenuto e senza nessun eroe, a voler sottolineare la mancanza di confini tra il bene e il male che di solito permette di distinguere i protagonisti. È del 1968 l'epico "C'era una volta il West" con soggetto firmato dallo stesso Leone, da Bernardo Bertolucci e Dario Argento; capolavoro assoluto e cervellotico di montaggio, scene d'azione, musica (Ennio Morricone come per i precedenti) e immagini. Considerato il suo capolavoro, all'epoca, tuttavia, fu un mezzo fallimento economico perché il pubblico non era pronto ad un'esperienza visiva tanto forte, originale e lunga.

He made an international star of Clint Eastwood, and proved a major influence when Eastwood went on to direct. Leone brought the composer Ennio Morricone to the attention of audiences around the world. And he ended his career with a gangster epic to rival The Godfather. Born into an Italian film-making family, Leone's early experiences were on costume epics, and working with American directors on cheap Italian locations.
