Click here for a Piccadilly hit 30 countdown from 1980 Pictured below are Gary Davies, Tony Emmerson, Timmy Mallett and a young looking Steve Penk. The Timmy Mallett picture was featured on the recent BBC2 Documentary "Fame, Set and Match" Piccadilly dropped the 261 from it's logo as more people started to listen on FM. Chris Evans is pictured below who started his radio career at Piccadilly. The station split frequencies in the 80's with Piccadilly 1152 on AM and Key 103 on FM. An Image change in the 90's saw the Piccadilly name added to Key 103, something they still do on and off to this day. Here is former DJ Pete Mitchell. Pete is now at Virgin Radio. The station launched during a recession which was happening in Britain in the early 1980's. Centre had spent £600,000 out of their £750,000 launch budget renovating a 19th century house near Victoria Park in Leicester, which they had bought, and added studios to at the rear of the house. New broadcasting equipment was bought and installed as well, this alone came to £300,000. A local architect was commisioned for the building work, and a plauque bearing their name is still there to this day. This building, Granville House, on Granville Road in Leicester, was Centre's headquarters throughout the whole of it's life.

Timmy brushes up on his art
Timmy with wife Lynda WACKY TV star Timmy Mallett is better known for his mallet than he is for his palette. In fact, Timmy loves painting almost as much as he does his home village, saying: "Wild horses couldn't drag me away from Cookham." Since the beginning of the year Timmy's painting has snowballed into an exhibition in Cookham of 50 portraits for the Queen's Golden Jubilee He explains: "It was in January, coming back from Countrystore, that Lynda, my wife, announced: 'There's going to be a marquee on the Moor for the Queen's Jubilee and they want one of your paintings to put up there, something to do with Cookham.' "I normally do landscapes and that would have been OK, but I wanted it to be a bit more here and now in the moment. I wanted a snapshot of Cookham in 2002, not with a happy snappy but with paints." So Timmy embarked on a search for residents to paint, and what started as a couple of well-known characters emerged into a whole collection.
