Robert Bio
Cathy Bio Cathy Rogers stepped from behind the camera to present Scrapheap Challenge. Before the 1999 series, Buckinghamshire-born Cathy was working as a producer for the show when the team decided they needed another presenter to work with Robert Llewellyn. 'I was involved with the auditions for the new presenter,' says Cathy, 'but somehow, we couldn't find the right person. Then someone suggested that I did the job. I wasn't sure but I gave it a go and it was fun. As I'd worked on the show for three years, it felt perfectly natural to chat to the Scrapheap Challenge teams on air. After all, I'd always talked to them anyway.' Music and medicine Though Cathy had never presented before, she was no stranger to being in full view. She used to play keyboards and sings backing vocals in a band called Marine Research, who toured the US and Japan and, in 1999, played the Reading Festival. And Cathy has an impressive CV in other respects. At Oxford, she studied human science and then trained in medicine for three years. She also completed an MA in health policy before moving into TV documentaries. She has produced a raft of programmes including Destination Mars , a series charting NASA plans for a manned flight to the Red Planet, The Iceberg Cometh for Channel 4's Equinox series , and Waxworks of the Rich and Famous - about Madame Tussaud's - for the BBC's Modern Times . She has also worked on the three Scrapheap Challenge series as executive producer and co-presenter, as well as presenting the US version

(1.9 Mb PDF Document, requires Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or newer to view) 1999-2002 Count Results The Rogers Pass project is 1 of 16 sites in HWI's migration monitoring netowrk. The primary objective of these efforts is to track long-term population trends of diurnal raptors throughout primarily western North America. Raptors feed atop food pyramids, inhabit most ecosystems, occupy large home ranges, and are sensitive to environmental contamination and other human disturbances. Therefore, they serve as important biological indicators of ecosystem health. Moreover, due to the remoteness and widespread distribution of most raptor populations, migration counts likely represent the most cost-effective and efficient method for monitoring the regional status and trends of multiple raptor species The interface of the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains represents an obvious migratory corridor for raptors, especially Golden Eagles. Prevailing westerly winds along the Rocky Mountain foothills create reliable updrafts for migrating raptors in a nearly continuous line extending from north-central Mexico through New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and western Canada. The attractiveness of this route for spring, northbound migrants (especially eagles) is enhanced by the abundance of Columbian ground squirrels and black-tailed prairie dogs newly emerged from winter burrows, carrion from spring calving, and migrating waterfowl. All are available on the plains in close proximity to the Rocky Mountain foothills.

Welcoming Remarks Sanctuary Manager Reed Bohne convened the meeting at 10:00 a.m. with an appreciation to the new SAC members for serving on the inaugural Gray's Reef NMS Sanctuary Advisory Council. Each member then introduced themselves with a brief explanation of their experiences linked to the marine world and specifically Gray's Reef NMS. Council Charter Planning and Outreach Coordinator Becky Shortland identified key components of the Council Charter and requested that SAC members look over the list of addresses, phone and email for accuracy.
