George A. Romero is the undisputed champion of the Zombie flick, with his first feature, Night Of The Living Dead being made for next-to-nothing in 1968. This film was a tongue-in-cheek adventure into this genre that soon became a cult film worl d-wide. Ten years later Romero came out with his second in the installment of three with Dawn Of The Dead which was a brilliantly satirical film packed with some of the most severe gore seen up to that time. Romero has been unable to match these tw o films, with Day Of The Dead Monkey Shines: An Experiment In Fear and The Dark Half . However with Martin also in 1978 he did come close; making a superior vampire film that has also become a cult classic. George was born in 1940 in New York City.

S. La Palme George Romero was born in New York City in 1940. He's widely known as a director of horror films. His best known works are The Night of the Living Dead trilogy. The titles of these popular films are Night of the Living Dead Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead . He's also worked with Stephen King on three occasions. He directed Creepshow and its sequel. He also directed The Dark Half starring, Timothy Hutton and Michael Rooker. Other film titles directed by George Romero are Monkey Shines , and Martin , noted as a classic vampire film. Romero continues to direct horror films today. Note from Lady Betty: As far back as I can remember, I have always loved George Romero's Night of the Living Dead . The one scene that impressed me the most in this movie is the scene in the basement where you see the little girl (played by Kyra Schon ) hacking her mother to death with a gardening spade. Well, you don't actually see it, because all you see is a shadow on a wall with blood splattering all over the place, but the image you get in your head is definitely a vivid one, without a doubt. Night of the Living Dead has to be one of the many influences which caused me to love the Horror genre so much. That and

By Keith Phipps In 1968, Pittsburgh-based filmmaker George Romero released Night Of The Living Dead, forever changing the face of horror moviesand arguably, the face of movies in general. Gory in a way unseen outside of the work of Herschell Gordon Lewis, Night established a mood of unshakable dread that was further heightened by Romero's flair for suspenseful direction. Like their predecessor, Night 's sequels (1978's Dawn Of The Dead and 1985's Day Of The Dead ) brilliantly use zombies as free-floating metaphors for the social anxieties of the time period when each film was made. The Dead trilogy remains Romero's best-known work, but the recently re-released Season Of The Witch, a tense feminist drama about a put-upon wife who joins a coven, and The Crazies, a Dead -like allegorical retelling of the '60s, reaffirm that his other work is often just as compelling. Martin (1978) is a fascinating look at a modern-day vampire living in Pittsburgh during the impoverished '70s. Knightriders (1981) provides a similar update for Arthurian myths, placing equivalents of Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot, and more in the middle of a Renaissance Fair employing motorcycles instead of horses. The clever EC Comics homage

I knew as soon as I saw Night of the Living Dead , I was hooked. Zombies are so cool. There's nothing creeper than a cemetery at night populated with the walking dead searching for the substance of human flesh .And the man most directly responsible for this phenomena is none other than George Romero. Night of the Living Dead was the first film of Romero's that I saw. Man, was I hooked. Slowly I have worked through the whole catalog. There have been some really weird ones like Season of the Witch . There have been some that were alright like The Crazies The Dark Half and Creepshow . And of course some that are classics like Night of the Living Dead Dawn of the Dead , and Day of the Dead which is my least favorite of his "living dead" movie, but still a great zombie film. I am even a big fan of Monkey Shines Martin, Creepshow, and Knightriders Later, with Dawn Romero took his vision one step further and focused on the human dilemma of survival, rather that traditional gore aspects of the genre. He re-established use of the storyline in horror and developed characters that we could really cared about and other we didn't. Rarely, do you see such substance in horror films. Romero definitely was ahead of his time. Then with Day of the Dead , Romero wanted and need to go farther, and produce a "zombie epic". The world he created need to be destroy by the true zombies...man. He vision was constrained by the machine that is Hollywood. They would never spend the kind of money Romero need to realize his dream. Unfortunately for us, we received a very watered down version of Romero's original concept for this film.

George A. Romero George Andrew Romero made his first feature horror film in 1968, the now legendary cult classic, Night of the Living Dead, on a small budget, and he has since made some other brilliant horror films. Here are some of them. Night of the Living Dead Right from the start of this film you know it is going to be scary, just by listening to the stinging, piercing music, and seeing the desolate road, has the car makes its way to the graveyard. We don't see anyone, apart from Barbara and her brother in the car, and then inside the graveyard we see the first zombie. Then her brother makes fun and is killed. Barbara then flees, and takes refuge in a deserted farmhouse, where she eventually meets some survivors, and they barricade themselves in from the ever increasing hordes of zombies. One of the great horror films. The Crazies A biological weapon has gone out of control, which leads to the people in a small Pennsylvanian town becoming rioters and murderers. Then the Army is brought in and things really get crazy. Martin Martin (played by John Amplas) arrives in Pittsburgh, and claims to be a vampire. He drinks blood and claims he is 80 years old. But, he is not the usual type of vampire. Crosses, garlic and sunlight do not affect him. Is he really a vampire? Tom Savini also makes an appearance in the film.
