HOME PAGE
James Stacy was born Maurice William Elias on 23rd December, 1936 in Los Angeles.  He tried a few occupations before deciding that acting was for him.  He returned to L.A. as this was the best place to start his career.
One of his first moves was to change his name.  He used James from James Dean, one of his favourite actors, and Stacy from his niece.
James originally wanted to play pro football and even though he was well built and fast, he wasn't heavy enough to withstand the constant physical punishment of the sport.
A good friend, Robert Fuller, suggested he join him in acting classes and so James was on his way.
His early appearances include Gunsmoke and Perry Mason.
Summer Magic
with Hailey Mills, Peter Brown and Burl Ives. It was during this time that he met and married actress Connie Stevens in a lavish Hollywood wedding in October 1963.  Unfortunately the marriage didn't last long and they divorced in 1966.
James appeared in a number of movies during the 1950s including Sayonara and the 1958 musical South Pacific .  Although none were outstanding, in that the roles were very small, they did put his face on the silver screen.

Walking Victorious by Stacy James
"Dublin Graduate Paralyzed in Dive" was the headline that ran through my mind. Paralyzed? I wasn't paralyzed. I knew I couldn't move my hands or legs, let alone feel them, but I wasn't paralyzed. Paralyzed people can't walk. Paralyzed people have to use wheelchairs. Not me. I wasn't paralyzed. Was I? On June 1st, 1991, life as I knew it changed forever. In a split second, breaking my neck in a diving accident meant I would never walk again, let alone glide across the dance floor, compete in baton twirling or karate, or play piano and guitar. At age 20 I was an outgoing, athletic Dean's List college student at the University of Cincinnati with my entire life ahead of me. Now I faced a future where I would never be physically normal again. The early days, weeks, and months of my new life in a wheelchair were some of the hardest of my life. Nine years later I continue to deal with pain, complications, ongoing therapy, and physical and psychological barriers. However, I lead a more abundant and joyful life than I could have ever imagined.

I'm Pressing On
By Stacy James November 28, 2002 It happened when I was but young I didn't even see it come My life was changed, the outlook dim The only thing I had was Him To fill my life, to make me whole; To give me purpose, meaning, goals. "I'm frightened, Lord, what will I do?" I'll take my fear and look to You I'll take my life, my big dreams gone And though I'm scared, I'm pressing on. "This isn't fun! This isn't right!" I cried myself to sleep at night Each morning saw a new disgrace Something more for me to face. One more thing with God to trust One more way to find him Just. Old dreams gone, new ones begun And though I'm scared, I'm pressing on.

Tips from the top Dazzlers: Intro At the end of my junior year at UC, a diving accident left me a quadriplegic. In spite of that, the life I have led since 1991 is far more abundant and joyful than I ever could have imagined. How can that be? I discovered that the ability to face life's challenges exists within each of us. Here's what works for me:
Positive attitude. I don't look at what I lost, but what I still have to live for. I choose to become better, not bitter; to try my best; and to be thankful for blessings physical progress, family, friends, a home, a free country and the opportunity to fulfill my dreams.
I was certain that God had a plan for my life, and I determined to work hard in therapy to use my life to serve him. I finished my college education, graduated magna cum laude and walked across the stage with the help of crutches to receive my University of Cincinnati diploma.
Perseverance.

Stacy James Stacy James, My Story June 1st 1991. At a pool party in college, I broke my neck in a diving accident and was paralyzed from the neck down. In the next 24 hours, my parents were told I would never walk again. I just wanted to move my hands. I played piano and guitar, and had twirled baton competitively. Now, the only things I had left to hold on to were my friends, my family, and my faith. In the Bible God says that once we trust Him He will never leave. Even though I lay there in despair, I knew there was hope because God loved me and still had a purpose for my life. In the dark hospital room, I determined to try my best with God's help to walk again, and serve Him someday with my life. I worked hard, and progress came in small victories: the wiggle of a toe, the tiny move of my finger. I was learning the tough reality that God's promises are the only things that would never disappoint me. You never think these things will happen to you. I was more mortal than I thought. Four months later, I walked out of rehab with arm crutches! I use them now for home and short distances. I enrolled in college, and with my mom's help, started finishing my college education.

Appleton's Cyclopedia of American Biography, edited by James Grant Wilson and John Fiske. 6 vols. New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1887-1889 was the "most-quoted" biographical source for 19th and early 20th America. Appleton's, due to its age, reflects the bias and prejudice of late 19th Century America. It is also estimated that 100 to 200 of the 35,000 biographies are entirely fictitious. Additionally, the OCR technology used to transfer the text to the web was, at best, only a 99% accurate. Research Interests
I am interested in the effects of contaminants on the growth and survival of post-metamorphic amphibians. While there have been numerous studies that assess the impacts of contaminants on egg and larval stages, potential latent effects experienced in the terrestrial environment have received little attention. Because amphibian population dynamics can be disproportionately dependent on the vital rates of terrestrial life stages, research on juveniles and adults is necessary to ensure we are adequately protecting amphibian populations from the harmful effects of contaminants.
For my dissertation research, I am investigating the effects of chronic larval exposure to cadmium on the growth and survival of juvenile American toads ( Bufo americanus ) and Southern leopard frogs ( Rana sphenocephala ). In 2002, I raised both species in cattle tanks that had been dosed with different concentrations of cadmium prior to tadpole addition. A sub-sample of resulting metamorphs was added to terrestrial enclosures in a single locality on a forest-grassland edge. These animals are being monitored for pre- and post-hibernation growth and survival. In 2003, I will build on the 2002 work by adding metamorphs exposed as tadpoles to enclosures in either field or forest sites in order to assess a possible habitat by chemical interaction. This research will not only provide basic information on habitat requirements, but will also help us better understand whether the terrestrial environment influences the impact of larval contaminant exposure.
