Written By Marilyn Beck and Stacy Smith, dated November 9, 1980 Submitted by Gary B. with candid photo from Milo Ten years ago, Dick York collapsed on the set of his Bewitched series, was taken away by ambulance and vanished from public sight. Now he sits doing his first interview in a decade, leaning forward with muscles taut, puffing cigarettes. And he notes that he had lain awake the night before worrying about our meeting and he stresses that he does not want any sympathy. He looks as familiar as yesterday's vintage show in which he co-starred with Elizabeth Montgomery. Yet, this is Dick York as we have never seen him intensely personified. And like a dam bursting, his story comes out in a torrent of words rising and falling from adamant declaration to halting explanation. York and Montgomery on the Set of Bewitched He has returned to Hollywood, this time as a writer-producer. In 18 months, he has written five complete screenplays and formulated 20 other projects, and, dead set on turning his dreams into reality, has gone into partnership with producer Edward Shaw. That's the easy part. The hard part is what came before the current blitz of activity when "I did not want to go back into acting so much that I let myself get fat. I gained 126 pounds a whole other person. I grew a beard I was disguising myself. Things got totally out of hand." By 1969 midway through the

Dick Morris
Probably the most prominent American political consultant, Dick Morris is almost universally credited with piloting Bill Clinton to a stunning comeback re-election victory in 1996 after the president lost Congress to the Republicans two years before. Called "the most influential private citizen in America" by Time Magazine , Morris helped steer Clinton to the center and away from the liberal policies he had pursued in his first two years in office. Morris is also credited with advising Clinton to sign the welfare reform bill of 1996 and getting him to back a balanced budget, both key centrist positions. Morris began his relationship with Clinton in 1977 when he handled the Arkansas Attorney General's successful campaign to become the youngest Governor in the nation. Morris did not work on Clinton's defeat for re-election in 1980 but did oversee his comeback victory in 1982 as well as his Arkansas re-election victories in 1984, 86, and 1990. In addition to Clinton, Morris has handled the winning campaigns for more than 30 Senators or Governors including Republican Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott and former Governors Bill Weld of Massachusetts and Pete Wilson of California.

Have you got any father or mother?" "I ain't got no mother. She died when I wasn't but three years old. My father went to sea; but he went off before mother died, and nothin' was ever heard of him. I expect he got wrecked, or died at sea." "And what became of you when your mother died?" "The folks she boarded with took care of me, but they was poor, and they couldn't do much. When I was seven the woman died, and her husband went out West, and then I had to scratch for myself." "At seven years old!" exclaimed Frank, in amazement. "Yes," said Dick, "I was a little feller to take care of myself, but," he continued with pardonable pride, "I did it." "What could you do?" "Sometimes one thing, and sometimes another," said Dick. "I changed my business accordin' as I had to. Sometimes I was a newsboy, and diffused intelligence among the masses, as I heard somebody say once in a big speech he made in the Park. Them was the times when Horace Greeley and James Gordon Bennett made money." "Through your enterprise?" suggested Frank.

The following is a Gaslight etext.... A message to you about
Rookwood:
Dick Turpin's ride to York
(c. 1834, this ed.?)
by William Harrison Ainsworth
A RRIVED at the brow of the hill, whence such a beautiful view of the country surrounding the metropolis is obtained, Turpin turned for an instant to reconnoitre his pursuers. Coates and Titus he utterly disregarded; but Paterson was a more formidable foe, and he well knew that he had to deal with a man of experience and resolution. It was then, for the first time, that the thoughts of executing his extraordinary ride to York first flashed across him; his bosom throbbed high with rapture, and he involuntarily exclaimed aloud, as he raised himself in the saddle, "By God! I will do it!" * *Since the earlier editions of this Romance were published, we regret to state (for to us, at least, it is matter of regret, though probably not to the travellers along the Edgeware-road) that this gentle ascent has been cut through, and the fair prospect from its brow utterly destroyed.
Accordingly, as Turpin was by no means desirous of inconveniencing his mare in this early stage of the business, and as the ground was still upon an ascent, the parties preserved their relative distances.

I did point out a resemblance between the Alger boys' homesickness for street life and that of Huck Finn. Mr. Seelye should reread Chapter II of Ragged Dick , largely a dialogue between Dick and his friend Johnny Nolan ("a boy of fourteen, who was engaged in the same profession as Ragged Dick") about life on a farm from which Johnny has just run away, back to the New York streets. With characteristic verve, Dick seconds Johnny's preference for the city: "I dunno as I'd like to live in the country. I couldn't go to Tony Pastor's or the Old Bowery. There wouldn't be no place to spend my evenings. But I say, it's tough in winter, Johnny, 'specially when our overcoat's at the tailor's, an' likely to stay there." Shades of Huck Finn? Johnny Nolan went off to the country in the first place to escape the brutality of his drunken father.

Handsome Dick is speechless. Which, as anybody who's ever heard him stop a Dictators' show dead in its tracks to talk talk talk knows, is an unusual state of affairs. Dictators' frontman Handsome Dick Manitoba (a.k.a. Richard Blum) is a garrulous fella and a raconteur in the New Yawk tradition, by which I mean that his stories all concern New York City, particularly its lower east side, and Handsome Dick's prominent place in it. But here we are in the Dictators' basement dressing room at the Black Cat after their September 15th show, and Handsome Dick isn't talking. Fact is, he can't talk. He's given his all to the enthusiastic crowd upstairs and his voice is utterly, completely, "Look at me I'm reduced to making ridiculous hand gestures" gone. Which is a pisser, because I've waited a very long time for this moment. Handsome Dick holds the key to a mystery that has tortured me for years: What, I've just got to know, is a Two Tub Man? Fortunately, Handsome Dick grabs-and I mean this quite literally-Andy (a.k.a. "Adny") Shernoff, the band's bass player, sometimes singer, and songwriting genius, and forces him to join us. I decide to begin with some basic definitions.

A Thorough Integration:
Experiments Linking Course Content with Weekly Virtual U Exercises
A Profile on First Adopter Dick Richardson
New York University
With a license to experiment, Richardson set out to design the new course. His decision to incorporate VU was due as much to serendipity as strategy. "I was considering how I would teach the course at the same time I was invited to the VU First Adopters meeting in Philadelphia," Richardson explains, "It was an irresistible temptation to explore whether or not the simulation could make the course more interesting and add an element that reinforced student learning and enhanced students’ experience." The First Adopters Meeting provided Richardson with an opportunity to speak with other faculty VU users, and to gather their good ideas and helpful syllabi. As did many First Adopters, he incorporated VU into his Spring 2002 course, although more as an add-on assignment than an integrated element. It was a governance course, and Richardson believes that earlier versions of the software made few contributions to discussions of governance and policy. However, he reports, because the simulation emphasizes budgeting and finance functions, it has had a major impact on the design of the inaugural doctoral-level higher education economics and finance course at NYU.

Dick Morris
New York is a great place to talk politics these days, and Monday, the School of International and Public Affairs(SIPA) brought together seasoned campaign watchers to talk about who they think is really leading in the Republican and Democratic presidential primaries; if former Senator Bill Bradley can appeal to enough voters; and who is likely to win the New York Senate race. Adjunct professor Jeffrey Pollock, president of the polling firm Global Strategies, organized and moderated the panel, which included Dick Morris, a former advisor to President Clinton and a Columbia College graduate; Michael Tomasky, New York magazine political writer; and Jay DeDapper, WNBC channel 4 political reporter. In particular, panelists looked closely at the race between Vice President Al Gore and former Senator Bill Bradley, discussing how each could distinguish himself from the other when they have such strikingly similar platforms. Panelists agreed that Bradley's success has come as a surprise, and DeDapper said that while critics like to say Bradley is too boring to appeal to voters, the one thing he's noticed in covering the Gore/Bradley campaign is that voters do connect with Bradley in unexpected ways.
