Better than the speakers
The book covers all the fundamentals, and while not as in depth as the Victor Marder tome,...it does help in teaching medical students and residents.Some of the chapters were written by faculty members of the University of Vermont.To tell the truth, the printed word is much more understandable than hearing the speakers in person.In all, a good book for learning the basics.

Probably the best single book to date on the subject
FULL DISCLOSURE--I work closely with several of the contributing authors in this book.

This book has been an indispensible resource in the preparation of my doctoral dissertation, which is on the blood-brain barrier.I would heartily recommend it to anyone interested in the field at the graduate student level or higher.The treatment of some subjects is a little uneven, but that is to be expected in a book that covers so much ground--from molecular biology and biophysics of tight junction proteins to clinical aspects of the BBB--in a single volume.The illustrations are attractive and clear, and most of the chapters are very well-written.

Overall, an excellent reference for researchers in the BBB field, and a great introduction to many aspects of the field for scientists or clinicians wanting to know more about it. ... Read more
