Extractions: Math and PC. he making of a book is a long process, carried out in well-defined stages. The last stage at which an author has the chance to make any changes to his text, above the level of a word here or a comma there, is called "copyediting." What happens is, a specially trained reader goes over your manuscript with a fine toothcomb, fact-checking, looking for errors in grammar or spelling, adjusting optional usages to the "house style," and adding some bits and pieces for the benefit of the typesetters, who control the following phase. The copyedited manuscript is passed back to the author for last words and decisions on doubtful points. ("Did you really mean to say this ?")

Educators - Available Programs - Biography Math and Aftermath (1997) 2 onehour segments A tribute to donald coxeter, the greatestgeometer of the 20th century, with eminent mathematicians John Conway http://schools.cbc.ca/educators/biograph.html
Extractions: A tribute to Donald Coxeter, the greatest geometer of the 20th century, with eminent mathematicians John Conway, Paul Redoes, Martin Gardner, Ron Graham and Doris Schattschneider. Elegant and fastidious, the oldest living student of geometry (Coxeter is in his 90s) is a pattern-spotter extraordinaire. He's also a musician, composer, pacifist, vegetarian, avid exerciser, author of many books and a teacher (more than 60 years at the University of Toronto). Colin McPhee Composer and author Colin McPhee was a man of many worlds. In Bali, he is revered as a saviour of that island's sacred gamelan tradition. In New York, he is remembered as a champion of the young Aaron Copland. In California, where he died in 1964, he is hailed as a forerunner of contemporary world music. But in Canada, where he was born, he remains almost unknown. Paul Kennedy attempts to redress the balance. The Men Who Search and Rescue

This page was last modified on September 9, 1998 The Comprehensive TeX Archive Network (CTAN) is a set of mirrored FTP sites providing access to as much TeX-related software as possible. The next list includes CTAN mirror sites or related items. It is weighted towards North American resources; see the CTAN sites themselves for more complete lists of mirrors. The sites below are also important TeX resources. labrea.stanford.edu is the definitive repository of the basic TeX sources. The American Mathematical Society is responsible for AMSTeX and AMSLaTeX, as well as a large number of fonts. The MIT list of macros is useful for finding macros and styles for electrosubmissions to publishers or for TeXing preprints from other sites (note that this is a very large file and that you may want to use the search facilities of your Web reader or editor to find what you need within it). The Universities of Utah and Washington have been important TeX sites for a number of years.
