Product Description
This collection of state-of-the-art techniques encompasses the breadth of neurochemical and molecular neurobiology research, ranging from the isolation of neuronal genes and the study of their expression to the analysis of receptor-ligand interactions, to the characterization of the consequences of receptor activation. The methods include electrophysiological techniques to explore the functional properties of receptors present in the membranes of excitable cells, methods to isolate novel genes central to neurobiological processes, and protocols to perform in situ hybridization histochemistry. Other methods cover measuring changes in gene expression, the rapid identification of gene polymorphisms, and the identification and characterization of second messenger pathways.
Together with its companion volumes, In Vivo Neuromethods and Cell Neurobiology Techniques, all three cutting-edge works will prove exceptionally useful to those basic and clinical neuroscientists who want to expand the range of their current research or develop competence in complementary methods.

Product Description
The wealth of material presented in Animal Models in Psychiatry has necessitated its expansion into a comprehensive, two-volume work.

This initial volume opens with an introductory chapter on criteria for assessing the validity of animal models in psychiatry, providing a framework in which to evaluate subsequent chapters in both volumes.Chapters are devoted to specific psychiatric disorders, along with various procedures that have been proposed as potential animal models for understanding their etiology and management.

Contributors are renowned experts in their respective fields, and bring to light new insight into several animal models including:parallels to schizophrenia • hippocampal lesions and schizophrenia • stimulant psychoses • hallucinations and continuous stimulants • mania • tardive dyskinesia • activity anorexia • attention deficit • neuroleptic-induced oral dyskinesias.

Everyone involved in psychiatric research, general neuroscience, and a host of other disciplines will find Boulton, Baker, and Martin-Iverson's timely new volume an indispensable resource for both office and laboratory. ... Read more

Product Description
Using meticulous archival research, Alan Baker challenges the orthodox portrayal of nineteenth-century French peasants as individualists and examines the extent to which they both continued with traditional forms of community action and developed new forms of collective action. More specifically, he examines the development and spread of voluntary associations in Loir-et-Cher, on the southwestern margin of the Paris Basin. He focuses on associations aimed at reducing risk and uncertainty (mainly livestock insurance associations, mutual aid societies, and volunteer fire brigades), and on associations intended to provide agricultural protection. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for toddler.
My son is a big fan of the rabbit series story books and he has been reading this one since he was 6 months old. He is now 22 months old and he still loves it. He would request to read this book at least 2 to 3 times a week and he is not tired of it at all. The drawing is easy on eyes and yet detail enough. The flap on each page would reveal an animal with an action. My son loves that we can make the sound of each animal together and giggle about it. The reading is easy for a toddler to follow. U would have to read the book with your toddler to experience the fun in between the pages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for toddlers!
Alan Baker's artwork is great -- the rabbits are adorable, the flowers beautiful. The pictures are big and uncluttered. It's pleasant to read again and again and again and ...well, you know how toddlers are with favorite books! Best of all, though, are the BIG flaps children can lift to find a barking dog, meowing cat, etc.My 18mo. old laughs with delight as she finds the animals on each page. These flaps were made with toddlers in mind -- they're not inset in the page (which would make the hard to grasp). It's a sturdy book, too. We're on child #2 reading it at our house, and all the flaps are still intact.Amazing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellentbook!
I purchased this book for my 2-year-old for his birthday so he'd have his own copy.He loved the one we checked out from the library and wanted to read it so often that I was afraid he was going to wear it out (or tear the pages).(Tip:This is a paperback book, but I bought laminating paper and laminated every other page myself so now he can't tear the pages!) The pictures are very colorful, and the objects are broken down into everyday topics that he can relate to such as clothes (shoes, shirt, socks, etc.), things to eat (cookies, orange, corn, etc.), and colors (purple grapes, green frog, red strawberries, etc.) just to name a few.My son has learned to say several new words from us reading this book together.I often find him "reading" this book on his own. This is a "must have" book for any young toddler and definitely one of his favorites.Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great first book and game combination
My daughter is 2 1/2 years old and this book has become one of her favorites.Aside from pointing to the pictures and naming the objects, we play some of the games suggested by the book. She enjoys looking for theanimals or objects that I name for her or telling me what sounds theanimals make.As she gets older, I think this book will be a nicecompanion for early writingand spelling exercises. With a littleimagination, this book can be a highly versatile part of any child'slibrary. ... Product Description
The debate about the purpose and practice of historical geography has often focused upon the progress to be made in the discipline through an adaptation to new problems, new methodologies, new techniques and new sources. Originally published in 1984, this volume of interpretative essays extends that debate by exploring in tentative fashion some basic methodological and substantive issues from essentially interdisciplinary standpoints. In any exploration, risks have to be accepted as an integral part of this enterprise. All of the contributors to this book take pleasure in one another's polemical company, and each essay explores a wide field while being soundly based in personal research. The hope is that some of this pleasure will be shared by those who critically read these essays. ... Read more
