    Extractions: MEDWAY - His life experience is his palette. The concepts of landscape and portraiture are not his vision. It's the world within that artist Brian Morrison looks toward for inspiration. "I paint with expressions of the human condition where the essence of life and spirit come to form," said Morrison as he excitedly told of an idea for new painting that came to him during a meditation. The chatter ceases when Morrison looks at his blank canvas. With the chants of singer/songwriter Moby soaring through his studio, Morrison approaches the white canvas with 30 seconds of pencil gesture work. After quickly mixing acrylics with tones of yellows and browns, Morrison confidently goes into his piece. He changes brushes from medium to thick and back. His hand is not delicate, but large and expressive. The calming scent of sage from below overcomes the room as a deep blue color is applied. He says nothing and pauses only to stand back to view his strokes. It is almost two hours before he is ready for a coffee break.

In nature, a rainbow is white light that is broken apart by the moisture in the air. People discovered that white light can be broken apart using tools like prisms or this spectroscope. The colors of the visible light spectrum are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. White light consists of all of the colors mixed together. The color of an object depends on how it absorbs and/or reflects light. If an object absorbs all of the light wavelengths, it will appear black. If it reflects all of them, it will appear white. If an object absorbs all wavelengths except red, for example, it will look red. Artists have invented many different media that imitate the colors of light. Painters, for example, use powdered pigments to reproduce the colors of the rainbow.
