They returned to Spain to look for reinforcements in order to return to the New World. Return he did, marching into Cajamarca, in northern Peru, before capturing, ransoming and executing the Inca emperor, Atahualpa, in 1533. Bolivia has undergone 191 governments since independence. It has been ruled by corrupt officials and hard line military juntas. Finally, in 1982 a leftist civilian movement called the Movimiento de la Izquierda Revolucionario won the election against the military. This government began the difficult job of reforming the government into a true democracy.

Reading List Chalalan Lodge – Bolivian Amazon US$895 Tour Code: CL7 In the heart of Bolivia’s pristine Madidi National Park lies Chalalan Ecolodge. Chalalan is the result of 6 years of hard work by the nearby indigenous community of San Jose Uchupiamonas and the commitment of two foreign aid organizations who were willing to break with tradition to support the community’s initiative. The result is comfortable accommodation surrounded by 4.5 million acres of protected wilderness. Although the community received help from outside organizations in the beginning, the lodge is now owned and managed entirely by the indigenous Quechuas. With a lifetime of knowledge, the Quechua guides lead visitors on searches for macaws, tapirs, monkeys, caimans, and more, and teach guests how rainforest plants and trees are used for medicine, tools, and food. No worries about the language, the indigenous guides are tri-lingual, speaking Quechua, Spanish and English! What makes this place truly unique is the opportunity to meet the people and learn about a culture that has called this wild place home for centuries.

Bolivia, named after independence fighter Simon BOLIVAR, broke away from Spanish rule in 1825; much of its subsequent history has consisted of a series of nearly 200 coups and counter-coups.
Comparatively democratic civilian rule was established in the 1980s, but leaders have faced difficult problems of deep-seated poverty, social unrest, and drug production.
Current goals include attracting foreign investment, strengthening the educational system, continuing the privatization program, and waging an anti-corruption campaign.

This book is packed with all kinds of information on Bolivia as a country and as a culture. It reads like a novel, as opposed to most fact-filled books. I sat down with this book knowing very little about Bolivia; Now I feel like I've been there. I look forward to seeing the pages come to life this summer as I venture into this amazing country. About KIT Training Projects
Bolivia – Vice Ministry of Culture The Vice Ministry of Culture in Bolivia is responsible for documenting not only the cultural heritage found in museums but, more urgently, for coordinating the documentation and transfer of information concerning colonial/religious art works from Indian churches in the Andean highlands. The problem of organised crime in relation to this aspect of cultural heritage required a rather different approach to using ObjectID than that confined to the collection of one particular museum.
The Catalogue Centre of the Vice-Ministry of Culture has already documented 15,000 works of art in various churches, and plans to add information on another 15,000 early/late colonial paintings. Collections

The colonial art in question was produced from the sixteenth through the nineteenth centuries. There is great criminal demand for two categories of art: paintings mostly by anonymous artists (initially Spanish, later Indian and Mestizo), often depicting the saints; and silverware in the form of altar goods and ex-votos. Both these forms of art were used to adorn the village church of any reasonably sized settlement. Beautiful, well-decorated churches became an important sign of status and prestige as Christianity was brought to the Andes. A number of important schools for med, such as those in Quito and Casco.
