Intermediate HTML tags , see HTML Guide No. IIa Attributes: Attributes are modifications to simple HTML tags that define what the tag does. Many tags have default attributesattributes that are in force when no attribute is explicitly written in the tag. For example, the horizontal rule tag, , actually has several default attributes which, if explicitly spelled out, would look like this: . And the horizontal rule would appear on a web page this way: Changing the value (the number or word following the equal sign) of each of these attributes to a new value changes the appearance of the horizontal rule. Changing the WIDTH attribute from 100% to 25% changes the length of the horizontal rule: Let's start with the FONT tag and alter it using the SIZE attribute:
  • Changing the Font Size: The -2 relative font size looks like this. The +2 relative font size looks like this.

HTML
Page Layout, Margins, Indenting, and Columns
HTML was originally designed as a 'markup' language to represent the logical structure of documents in terms of headings, lists, etc. Since some elements of HTML were commonly rendered with similar layouts, e.g. indenting of BLOCKQUOTE, these were pressed into use for layout solutions by web page designers. However the official HTML specifications do not demand these specific renderings, and although the most popular browsers might indeed implement the layout with indenting, this is not guaranteed to be true of all browsers.

Adding links
Formatting your text Learning how to format text ranks as one of the most important things to learn in HTML...after all, all documents contain some text inside of it. -Headers
-Paragraphs You can go on to manipulate the alignment of any paragraph by using the align attribute. This attribute accepts three values-left, center, or right. Lets align a paragraph to the right edge of the page: <p align="right">This is the rightly aligned paragraph. This is the rightly aligned paragraph. This is the rightly aligned paragraph.</p> -Bold and italic text -Changing font color, size, and type Like any decent word processor, you can also alter the font color, size, and type of the text. The three tags that accomplish this are as follows:

Burlingame Intermediate School is a true middle school that has a program based on the developmental needs of the emerging adolescent. To this end, much of the school is organized into blocks of instructional time to create small centers of learning. Furthermore, teams are part of our program, advisory programs play a significant role in the culture of our school, and all classrooms utilize instructional strategies for the active learner. Technology is integrated into all areas of the curriculum. Inclusive activity programs provide additional opportunities for the adolescent. Click on the links below for more information on BIS.

In the previous section , we started developing longer web pages and using new HTML tags in a systematic way. We made some basic font changes. We created some paragraphs, headings, and lists. The problem is that by themselves, these tags are kind of lifeless. An is just like any other out there... right? Fortunately, no. There is a way to style tags, using a language called Cascading Style Sheets CSS ). We already saw a hint of what style sheets can do when we were mucking around with the color and background-color . But CSS can do much more than this, as we'll see starting in this section. The first three pages deal with how to apply styles; we're going to be learning a new framework for applying them that is elegant and efficient. In the beginning we'll be sticking with "color" styles, because these styles are simple and get the point across. After that, we'll start expanding our style vocabulary.
